I'm looking for a ~$100 boom with a windscreen that i can attach to my dvx100b.

Any got any suggestions?

Thanks,
Kyle

I don't think you can find anything decent for that price. Gave one Taiwanese brand a try but it sure sounds cheap. Maybe try a second hand sony mike that comes with their PD150 or 170

dang.
well, whats a good on camera shotgun thats around $100-$200

Im looking for something that will do the job, but it won't be my primary mic.

Thanks,
Kyle

I'd suggest you go spend 15 minutes in the audio forum, the regulars there are second to none in knowledge. Now, they'll be talking about gear that is way beyond your budget, but what they do make you realise is how important sound is.

Do a search on your subject and you'll find plenty of other posts.

Also read the stickies at the top of the forum - you'll realise that there's no point spending all that money on a camera and then scrimp on the mic. Average pictures with great sound is a lot better and easier to watch than great pictures with crap sound.

I sold some other stuff I have and more than quadrupled my budget after reading their posts, to make sure I got a decent mic and I have not regretted it.

For what it's worth, if you can scrape together another hundred bucks I'd say go for the Rode NTG1, which I would consider the best value low cost mic.

Good luck

It depends what you want to shoot. For $100, I don't think you're going to get a mic much better than the one that's already on the camera. Now, if most of your stuff is shot indoors you can shove out an extra $75 and get an oktava mk012 with a hyper cardioid capsule from sound rec room. My advise to you is to search the sound threads just like Bunyip said, all the questions that you could possibly have are already there. Thanks to guys like Mattinstl and Jeremy (Yankee).

I put a crappy 200.00 one on mine and it hardly made a difference.. (returned it) You have to spend some bucks.. no way around it
