Don't hate me... I picked The Birds. I was really little when I first saw this movie and it scared the living daylights out of me. And to this day birds still scare me more then anything.

Of course if you watch it now it's kind of cheesy. That movie and Night of the Living Dead kept me up at night when I was little.

I really like The 39 Steps. It's damn fine work for the time. Hitch played the odd card and the public played along.

Strangers on a Train is my all time favorite. The opener is fantastic. What an odd story with odd characters.

Grace Kelly, IMHO, was the most stunning actress ever.

Which makes Jimmy Stewart's behavior in Rear Window so baffling. I mean, if she was trying to show how much she loved me...Damn, she was amazing. :)

I picked THE BIRDS, too, because it has been my favorite Hitchcock movie (and overall favorite) for many years. The last 20 minutes epitomize Hitchcock's ideal of "pure cinema", at least as I understand him.

Oh my, THE BIRDS is "kind of cheesy"??? I respectfully, if vehemently, disagree. Hitchcock stretched himself on this film, and everything was state of the art. THE BIRDS is a whole textbook on the art of filmmaking.

The polling system will only allow 10 choices. It was really hard to try and pick 9 (and leave 1 for other). :(

Chris

How about doing a decade-by-decade poll?

The Lady Vanishes missed the cut, too -- I have a special place in my heart for it...

The Man Who Knew Too Much is another good one that's missing.

Probably either NBNW or Rear Window from among these.
