Redrock Follow Focus and Mattebox

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this - I'm really trying to get some answers from the guys at Redrock Micro but when I email them, all I get is an automated reply.

Here goes:

I am considering buying a Panasonic HVX-200 camcorder, a Red Rock Micro M2 Indie lens system and Red Rock Micro follow focus system as accessories.

My questions are:

Do you get 2 sets of rods with the two Red Rock Micro products (M2 Indie and follow focus)?

Does anyone know if Redrock Micro will be making a matte box and French flag for the M2 system? If not, who makes one to fit - Schneider/Century? Chrosziel?

On the Redrock Micro's website, the follow focus system ISN'T shown with an HVX-200 - will the follow focus system fit and work with an HVX-200?

Sorry to overload you all with so many questions.

Charlie

Hi Charlie

I answer all the incoming emails and haven't seen one from you? strange.

At any rate, here are some answers:

1. the microFF works with the rods in the M2 bundles. The microFF does not come with its own rods. The Redrock rods will support everything that your camera needs (provided it's not a 5000mm lens :) )

2. Yes, we have announced the microMatteBox for late summer release

3. We just released our "D" gear which works with the HVX's camera lens, so yes it works with both HVX and 35mm lenses

Hope that helps - feel free to drop me a line directly at bvalente@redrockmicro.com

Is there info on these on your web site and where?

Hi Richard

Details are coming on the microMatteBox, but nothing published yet

The D gear for the HVX lens is available in our online product catalog - under the purchase menu from our home page.

Thanks

Brian

Brian, thanks for your quick response.

I'm VERY interested in this because I am in the process of spec'ing an HVX for a movie project and I would like to use your M2 adapter. I would be a happy camper if you could provide ALL the external hardware (M2, rails, matte box, focus controller). My need is within the next 30 days so if there were some info available soon, both physical specs and pricing including packages, my job would be a little easier!

No pressure, things are just working out this way.

Hi Richard

Here's an excerpt from our website:

It is a wide format matte box.
It is rod-mounted (15mm rods, of course)
it is a multi-stage mattebox.
So far we have 4x4, 4x5, rotating, and fixed stages.
You can choose the number and type of stages, and stack them
French flag
Side flags
It will have a special stage for supporting still lenses. the microMB will also work with cinema lenses.
It is currently in the plan to have a swing-away, but don't yet know if that will make the final cut (crossing fingers)
Base package starting under $500
The quality of the product is very high. Portions of the mattebox we manufacture and provide to an unnamed large and very prestigious cinema equipment company (whose name you would recognize but we can't say), so it's already been proven in the field.

Thanks

Brian

Brian,

The RR "Micro Follow Focus Lens Gear Assembly", what are the teeth gauge/interval?

Fujinon are said to be 0.6 and Canon are 0.5

Thanks in advance.

Brian I have a question about the RR FF as I am interested in purchasing one (with an M2 package). The review by VASST was quite compelling, however, i have noticed some user reports that the RR FF is natorious for having play in the wheel?

Hi epeace,

Thanks for asking. I recommend you read this thread on our forums:

http://redrockmicro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1668

It gives a more detailed review of our follow focus from a user's perspective. There is some play, but many users report it is not significant. Also, we've noticed that some folks report much better results when the microFF is set up correctly - you need to make sure it isn't engaged in the lens gear too tightly. Setup makes a big difference

Cheers

Brian
