What would you love to adapt to screen?

Serious question this time around. LoL.

What movie would you love to make from a book, video game, comic, etc.

I'll start:

PARASITE EVE -- Squaresoft Video Game.

The movie's practically written already. Anyone who's played already knows.

The movie of the same name, though, sucks. I'd like to do a true adapation that veers clean away from the VG adapation crap we've been plaqued with.

It'd be a fresh approach to Sci-Fi/Horror, I think.

FLOATING DRAGON -- Novel by Peter Straubb . I'm a fan of his work, and Floating Dragon was great. I'd love to do that story, even though I'd have a hard time picking and choosing which things to really focus on.

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA -- Dunno how I even forgot that. I've been wanting to do that forever. Great fantasy movie it would be.

Ok... this is me and my buddy's dream kind of... first adapting the rest of the "Bill Donley" series of novels to screen (the first one being Smuggler's Ransom, which we're filming in two days) and the second being "The Space Series" by CS Lewis... amazingly visual books, and could make great films!

Harlan Ellison's screenplay for I, Robot. - Extremely intelligent script based on the book. It's basically a Sci-Fi Citizen Kane.

Jonathan Lethem's Gun with Occasional Music - Brilliant book. I think it would make a great Sci-Fi noir film.

I keep hoping to come across an amazing book that is relatively unknown and/or the author is relatively unknown....as that would make it within my reach to get the rights.

Otherwise, rights acquisition notwithstanding, I'd love to adapt Orson Scott Card's "Alvin Maker" series, or his one-off novel "Treasure Box" (great horror story).

Sometimes all you need is the story :) We got an intriguing story with Smuggler's Ransom that was pretty poorly written... it took a lot of rewriting, but the story structure was good.

Oh I agree...but I keep reading well known author's (e.g. Orson Scott Card)... I need to find some obscure novels/authors with a decent storyline or two.

I'd like to remake Where the Red Fern Grows.

And someday I'll riff on Bunuel's Exterminating Angel.

Both nice. Especially Where the Red Fern grows.

kholi, i was totally thinking Zelda when i read your thread.... that would be sooo kick ass. I don't know how well the dorky green cap would go over tho.

I bet that's the same thing that was said when people contemplated making little people with big hairy feet on a quest to deliver a gold ring into a volcanoe on the otherside of a made up world.

=D

Zelda would totally rip. I would try a fan film but I know it wouldn't go over well. After I sat down and started drawing up ideas on which storyline to follow, I ended up thinking it'd be better to create an entirely new one.

And then i thought... that would suck... because I don't have enough cash to do a good fan film of it.

But really, The Legend of Zelda would be so kick ass.

you could do anything with it ... all you need is link saving princess zelda from gannon. bam. blockbuster.

I think a modern day adaptation of Shakespeares Henry VIII would be pretty cool. Instead of the French and English Armies in battle Iwas thinking along the Large Corporations in Battle kind of thing.....does any of that make sense?

A live-action version of Nobuhiro Watsuki's Rurouni Kenshin storyline. Something that parallels the Samurai X OVAs. Amazing samurai story that would be a hoot to bring to the big screen. Although it would all have to be in Japanese with English subtitles. And I would rename it either Rurouni (masterless samurai) or Battosai (Master of Sword Drawing).

The whole time I was watching The Last Samurai, I kept on reflecting on how much better a movie Rurouni Kenshin would make.

One day, perhaps. One day.

V For Vendetta.

Ender's Game.

If I thought Stranger in a Strange Land could successfully be adapted, I'd want to do that. But I don't. It can't.

And . . . guilty about this one . . . Macross.
