What lenses do you reccomend for M2?

Redrock has a wonderful forum that has discussions on the M2, its setup, and more. If you can't find what you want to know..... just ask on the forum. Those guys are so helpful with questions it's like flies on sh*t. Haha prob not the best analogy. I have no idea how the sgpro works. I should look into it just to keep fillin the ol' knowledge pot.
Goodluck

What really intrigues me is how well the contrast color improves based on 35mm lenses you're using with the adapter...

why is this?

ok I have another n00b lens quesion,

I'm just now making my first attempt at working with lenses, so this is probably a no brainer for you guys, I was told to look for this lens to go with a 35mm adapter for the hvx a 50mm f1.4

now this here is the detail from the store website Nikon 50 1.4 Ai Lens *52

so its a 35mm slr lens and the f is 1.4, what's the *52 at the end?
all the lenses i'm finding have this measurement which I don't understand.

are there different sizes for an slr 35mm, nikon 50mm lens, if so which would i need for a hvx200 adapter setup?

thanks

I love the field of view on a 135mm. And I heard that 75-200mm 2.8 Sigma Zoom is pretty solid. Never used it tho. Really depends what your shooting... I shot a 35mm short film using a 18mm and a 25mm only and it came out great, but I would avoid the wide lenses on that adapter and go with a long sharp lens like the sigma zoom.

I'm not sure if you're answering my question, or yardsale's or jus sayin in general, but anyway my confusion about the measurements still stands, I think my questions is clear enough, if it doesn't make sense, well, someone plz say "what the hell are you talkin about?"

basically i'm tryin to figureout what that last 52 number is

52 (or other end figures) is the front filter size.

Ok, sorry for being such a n00b, but I really need to know this,

so for and M2 adapter on an hvx200 would I be looking to buy lenses with one specific filter size?, or does it not matter, I really don't get how this works, also if there is like a tutorial or something that you guys can point me towards I'll stop asking all these beginner questions.

Thanks a lot

It's cool man, ask away. If we think it's dumb we wont answer... ha ha.
I did not buy my lens with filter size in mind. I focused on glass quality, lens speed, and length.

As you know, filters screw on the front of the lens. Having the same filter size on your lenses can let a photographer use his filters on multiple lenses without having to buy different size filters. But the reason I did not pay attention to filter size is that I plan on using a mattebox. Most matteboxes allow 4x4 filters or the 4x5 filters. So I'll just be buying filters for my mattebox and any 35mm lens, stock camera lens, and anything you can stick behind a mattbox will work.

Also depending on the brand you are buying. Companies try to utilize the same size filters.... for the most part. Ex: I bought 4 nikons. My 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm primes all share the same filter size. Only when I hit the 80-200 big (cheap and annoying) zoom lens did the filter size change.

- Best regards

Hi Guys ! I'm looking at getting some Nikon lenses for the Brevis 35. Yes !!! I have finally decided on the Brevis and will be getting it as soon as my overdraft is approved. I have put these three in my basket at Keh.com (thanks Ryan) for 660 what do you think ??

50mm F1.2 AI (52) 35MM SLR MANUAL FOCUS STANDARD ANGLE LENS
135mm F2.8 SER E AIS (52) WITH CAPS 35MM SLR MANUAL FOCUS TELEPHOTO LENS
85mm F1.8 NON AI (52) WITH CAPS 35MM SLR MANUAL FOCUS TELEPHOTO LENS

No problem, Ray. Your selection does not look bad at all. Just remember if you plan on switching out your lenses mid scene, you will have to light for the slowest lens. But then again all your lenses are below f/2 except your 135mm. The total price is a nice total for those lenses. Can I ask the Keh rating for them? I ordered all mine bargain and one EX. Although I have not used them on my coming M2 yet, I inspected them by eye very closely and have to say they look very clean.

Ryan, The 50mm is Bargain the other two are EX. I tried to get a 135 below f2 but they had none, I was just wondering if I should spring for one or is the f2.8 fast enough. Also if I was to go for a wide what should I look for ?

1.4/35 instead of 135 (for now). This way you can get most shoots.
Reach for a 1.4/85 (and if you don't like it, I'll buy it from you! !)

Your Keh ratings are spot on. My EX rating lens was a beauty, not to mention the bargains were indeed bargains.

Dan brings up a good point. I say this because that is what I did! I own a 35mm f/1.4, 50mm f/1.4, and a 85mm f/1.8. You might want to consider a lens lower then 50mm, but then again I have seen many go your route and have assorted primes all over 50mm.

Your f/2.8 is alright. Then again, up in that range (135mm) it is hard to find primes less then f/2.8 or 2. So if that is what you want, you are fairly well off.

I couldn't bring my self to buy an 85mm f/1.4. My f/1.8 should do me alright. I just try to stay under the f/2 mark. If you can afford the 85mm f/1.4 go ahead and buy it. I'll be green with envy. :)

Go for a Nikon set like this:

24mm F/2
35mm F/1.4
50mm F/1.2
or the 55mm F/1.2
85mm F/1.4
105mm F/1.8
135mm F/2

Thank you Prodigy, luckily, I owned most of those lens prior to picking up my M2 so it has been a blessing in disguise for me to have purchased them in the past not knowing that they would be of such importantance in the future.

Thanks Guys ! I have decided on the 35mm 1.4 the 50mm 1.2 and the 85mm 1.8 ( like you Ryan I think the 1.4 is just out my reach at the moment) I will prob look at a 135mm 2 and the 24mm 2 at a later stage but for the moment these should cover the basics. Cheers !!

Can anyone provide a link to a page that shows side by side comparisons of these nikon lenses in action? I can't really tell what focal lengths I prefer without a visual representation.

Two things:

IMHO, you asked for the BEST option with the M2. That would be a set of cinema lenses using the PL mount. A set of SuperSpeed Primes (rated T1.3) can be rented for around $300/day and you could work out a deal for longer rentals with some shops.

When I was shopping for my Nikon prime lens set (yes, I realize what I said in the previous paragraph), I found site to be an excellent source to base my decisions on ... can't seem to come up with it now, but maybe it was Ken Rockwell's site with different formatting.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/nikkor.htm

But again, Mr. Blonde has picked the best of the best ...

One thing that I felt was mentioned (or at least was my impression) was to choose the non-ai lenses as they had better quality. I personally settled for the following primes: f2 28mm, f2 35mm, f1.2 50mm, f1.8 85mm, f2.5 105mm, f2.8 135mm. Again with the note that if I wanted to go faster, I'd rent.
