I need to know how to burn a dvd of my movie out of Vegas and also how do I edit on the 24p timeline to make sure my movie looks like a match that I view when editing. Thanks for any help... Still new wit this stuff..

You can't burn DVDs directly from Vegas. You need to export a movie file and burn from another program. Do you have DVD Architect?

To edit on a 24p timeline, go to File>Properties (or Alt+Enter) and pick one of the 24p templates.

It might help you to watch the video link in my sig below.

Thanks.. one more question.. what is the best format to to export my project out on and then burn to DVD.. wmv.. mov.. I don't know just need a little help..

Make sure you check the MPEG2 render template inside Vegas, to choose for Variable Bitrate, 2-Pass encoding and the Best Quality setting, to get the best render quality Vegas can produce for MPEG2.

Sure will.. why does it take over 3 hours to render a 19 min. short in avi. or .mov format? Is this normal?

It can depend on a lot of things, is your computer slow or old, how many effects are you running, how many transitions/fades are you including and how long are they. A normal 3 minute video with mild editing takes me about 20 minutes to render and my system is about 4 years old so there's and example.

We need to know what is your existing setup..If you have a old computer then it is what it is..

Here is my set up.. I have a Toshiba Notebok Satellite A 75 Mobile Intel Pentium 4,
CPU 3.33Ghz, Speed 3330 Mhz, Memory 1408 MB Ram, Video - ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP, Available Hard Disk 93.16GB, Windows XP Home Edition Pack 2
Maxtor 200 GB External HD... I just purchased my 200 GB drive so my video from the dvx is on my c drive & my 19. min short is being rendered on my new Maxtor 200 GB drive . Checking my system memory my c drive total size is 93.16 GB - Free space 33.82 GB used 59.33 GB........... If this isn't the problem do you think it was the settings i may have used in vegas to render my short. As I'm speaking its only at 42% from last night in between me falling asleep and continuing the render from my notebooks hibernation mode. I deperately need help!!! Can you tell me what setting you use within Vegas to render out and put your film on DVD. I am also shooting in 24p mode. On a 24p timeline..

24p renders faster.

You probably have a lot of stuff running in the background. Exit everything in your tray, exit every other application, and get off the Internet. This will free up processor speed.

I turned off the norton anti virus and i turned off the wireless access to the internet.. what else should I do. I have icons at the bottom of the screen should I remove those or what should I do. I'm only at about 50% rendering now. I know darn well rendering this small amount of footage with only a couple of black and white effects and a few clips slowed down doesnt take a whole day to render or no one would be using Vegas to edit their projects.

I use the DVD Architect 24p templates under MPEG-2.

Do you have Magic Bullet effects on there? If so, you've run into the awful truth of Magic Bullet -- the render time is preposterous.

Don't have magic bullet this is all in Vegas... So under normal circumstances a 19 min short with minimal effets all in Vegas should normally take how long to render?

For me (Athlon X2 +4400 dual-core), a straight transfer to DVD Architect template (cuts only) renders in about 46% of realtime (last night, I rendered 38 minutes of footage in 18 minutes). Cropping and changing aspect ratio, with minimal effects, usually takes about 80% of realtime.

Magic Bullet looks come free with Vegas. What exact effects did you put on this footage?

I only used one black and white filter on one clip and a mirror effect on another and a few velocity changes and hard white fades, nothing else.. It has to be the settings I'm using, I really don't know what settings to use other than a 24p timeline if I'm shooting in 24p mode. I just got my camera this past Wednesday and just copmpleted my first short. I did notice when i edited my footage on a timeline at 29.97 fps my 24 p footage came out like crap when I exported to DVD. So what settings should I be using when rendering?

But what exact effects did you use to produce the black and white? The hard white fades?

Mirroring the clip is a render hog. Changing velocity is a nasty render hog, and the more it's changed, the worse it is.

As for the settings, the DVD Architect templates are there for a reason -- they're ideal. Unless you need to get the filesize down, and for 19 minutes of footage, you don't.

Im rendering a 1 hours worth of footage as a mpeg2. when i bring it into dvd arch, it wants to recompress? the file itself is 2.5 gigs but shows up as 5.8 gigs on dvd arch. am i missing something?
