Century Adaptors V's 35mm Adaptors for DOF !!!

Hi ! I was just wondering if anybody has any experience using the Century .6 and 1.6 x converters for working with DOF. I understand from Barry that the resolution is better when using the Century than 35mm Adaptors; but they are some problems with distortion at the wider settings.
Just wondering if anybody has used them on a dramatic project. I am looking at both options and must say the lack of set up associated with the Century and the ability to use a remote like bena's focus buddy with hard stops is definitely attractive. In saying that the 35mm Adaptors can definitely produce some great images. Just weighing up the pros and con's of each, so any suggestions are appreciated !

I haven't used the Centuries on my HVX, but have used similar adapters elsewhere.
The Century .6 and .75x give you a wider angle, so no shallow DOF to be found there.
The 1.6x will increase the focal length of the lens, so you can get more shallow DOF on the long end of the lens, but this is not nearly as versatile having a good 35mm adapter.

The limitations are apparent when you have to shoot medium to wide angle day exteriors, and everything's in sharp video-like focus, or when your location is a small area or interior where it's impossible to shoot a scene with a long lens. Without the long lens, of course, your DOF looks like video.

IMO for a dramatic project, the 35mm adapter is an essential piece of gear.

Thanks R Gale ! I am definitely leaning towards getting a 35mm adaptor; prob the SGPRO. I will prob be using the adaptor on a Varizoom Aviator; and was wondering if you or anybody else has experienced trying to pull focus on a similar rig ? I understand you would need a focus puller but was wondering if it's possible with a follow focus and whip. Unfortunately I don't think my budget will stretch to a wireless system !!

Hi Prodigy !
I haven't decided for certain. I'm waiting on some reports and footage back from HVX owners using the SGPRO. From all accounts it has one of the best light loss records. Also the improvements in the unit from the previous model should result in a better build and more robust unit. In his review Jarred said that the old unit gave great results so I'm thinking the improvements should make it even better. My only concern would be the ease of set up. I know that this has been where most 35mm adaptor users have encountered problems; not neccessararly with this unit but in general.
I would love an adaptor that I could attach directly to the HVX without worrying about setup; but maybe I'm only concerned because I have never used or had to set up an adaptor before.
Finally I'm living in Ireland and with the 4-6week delay when ordering from RedrockMicro and the additional costs of shipping and tax it would prob add another 300 dollars to the cost of my unit; this in itself is not a major issue but Wayne Kinney and SGPRO are a UK based company so shipping and any related issues (return/repair if needed ) makes it easier.

Regards.

Ireland?!! Ohhhh I am so jealous!!! Someday I hope to live there.

Anyway, your reasons sound good. I was unaware sgpro was UK based. That is a big factor for you! Well good luck. If you see any sgpro footage that isn't here on DVX, please link it for us. Best regards,

Just seen the New Brevis 35 !!! I really like the way it looks and attaches to the HVX, lightweight, robust, simple to set-up and seemingly the footage looks great too.
This has just thrown a spanner into the works. Back to the drawing board. Now I want the Brevis !!!
