Real Men of Genius: Mr. Way Too Proud of Texas Guy

that is good. My favorite one of all time though was: "Mr inventor of the taco salad. You did the impossible. You created a 12,000 calorie salad..."

:)

Very funny.

What bums me out, is this series used to be called "Real American Heroes" until the PC Gods of the universe decided that was offensive.

Yes. Back when they had Mr. Wedding Band Guitar Player. ("Mazel Tov! Mazel Tov!")

I felt the same way when they pulled the orginal Spiderman trailer because he caught a helicoptor in a huge web between the twin towers...But oh well...

They changed to Real Men of Genius after 9/11. Seemed a bit tacky to keep using heroes around that time. They could probably go back to it now if they chose. This campaign has been going on since 2000 (have to check my CDs) and has won the top prize in the Radio Mercury contest ($100,000) at least twice, maybe three times (those are the CDs I'm referring to). They are may favorite radio spots of all time.

Originally, the spots were recorded with a different VO and singer. The creative team and the client both hated them. The creatives convinced the client to let them try again. So they got Pete Stacker to do the VO. For the singer, they were sitting around talking when one guy said, "We need somebody like the guy from Survivor." So they went out and got David Bickler, the original lead singer of Survivor. The rest is radio advertising history.

FYI - for those who remember the Starbucks Double Shot Espresso TV spot with Survivor ("Glen!"), that lead singer is not Bickler. "Glen!" is one of my favorite TV spots.

Yes, I'm an ad geek.

My fave was the "MR golf cart ball picker upper"

"They always aim at you, but then someone will hit a dribbler. They will go for it... and you will be there"

There was a website with about 40 of them up, but the guy maintaining it (college kid) was forced to take them down.

Just saw that they've done over 140 of these as of last month. Being is Dallas, I've actually heard Mr. Too Proud of Texas Guy. Is it playing in other markets?

I did too. I thought it would be a tribute, and found nothing distasteful at all. They chouls have left it, or, put it at the end credits at least.

Great clips, keep em comin.

That was great, and true to some of us. I work support and when someone asks where I'm at I reply with "the greatest state in the world". I'd say about 80% get it right. The rest fall into the Gomer group except for a few that replied with their own state. Love those Bud commercials.
