Pro Tools and Mbox - What's the big deal?

it took me months working with an expert to appreiciate the value of protools, and now I am using it every day for post sound, I love it.. the shortcuts get things done in half the time it wold take in cubase.. I don't need any midi rubbish that cubase could offer. when I want to use midi, I can rewire reason thorugh protools.

I dont think you can appreciate it in the time you gave it. you need tutored, you need to be shown things.. one day with someone who knows it and i bet you'd buy it back.

i just scanned your article, if possible later, i'll go throguh it and highlight stuff in more detail.

I agree. You aren't going to become a pro with pro tools in a few days. It takes years of work, and even then, there is always something new to learn.

I use Reason rewired to protools also. It's a killer combination, however as loyal as I am to protools (six years now) Cubase like protools can be learned and can flow just as well...kind of like comparing Honda and Toyota, both are great and efficient too. I work with one guy who composes for CBS and swears by cubase, but he's a composer and that's what it's set up for. Protools is a great program, and if you really dig in you can learn it fast, it really doesn't go that deep, but it's very powerful.

yeah, I kinda grew up on cubase from the atariST days through to about 4 years ago, and know what its all about, but I always found it unstable and another thing was that as a hobbyist in the early days I didn't have anyone to show me the shortcuts, so i was learning on my own and never really got anywhere close to the speed I can work now on protools.

I agree, they are different, I still occasionally muck about with nuendo's surround stuff, which is sorta fun, but wouldn't go back to steinberg.

hey - incidentally, a dubber I use in glasgow uses and swears by 'SoundScape'. anyone used it? reckons i'm daft for using "Slo-Tools" :D

AAAAAAAAAHHHHH! Stay away from the Sound Scape devil!! God I hat that system... it tries so hard to be Pro-Tools, but fails in every way.

A lot of old-school people love it, but I cant stand it man. I guess Im too young and naive.

I use Nuendo and love it, but naturally Pro-Tools is THE big name. C'mon, Slo-Tools just sounds cooler. :)

First PT has never been much of a MIDI program and second wow I'm floored you gave it a couple of days, and being such an expert from all your soundblaster experience I'm shocked that such a pro had problems. Give Me a break. PT is not the greatest thing since sliced bread but trying it out for a few days after your extensive consumer experience is ridiculous. You would really hate a 2" machine and an SSL, no MIDI or piano roll... must all be hype by corporate America.

I hope others can read something. Or at least reconsider!
