turning DVD into useable video files

I ask this as legitimately as one man can ask a message board. I have a movie I made in premiere that I burned onto a DVD (about 5 minutes long). Now my Premiere computer has crashed. I need to extract this DVD file off of the DVD so I can post it on the internet. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Since this is technically illegal (I think) and people get squeamish about posting these things, feel free to PM me. Or e-mail at tennisguy271@yahoo.com

Thanks,
Chris

I have captured direct form my DVD player using composite out to composite in on my capture card before with great success and if you're going to be bustin it down for the web anyway the quality of this method should be way good enough.

First, when you say you want to put it on the Internet, you have not told us about your target format ? Quick Time, WMV? Flash?

Anyway to give you a generic answer:

Step 1:

Rip DVD to hardrive, many apps ca do this, eg DVD shrink (set mode to "no compression")

Step 2:

Convert .VOBs into AVI [ DVDtoAVI ] file (with compression of choice) or Frameserve to any transcoding app eg TMpgenc to get final target file.

Step 3 (optional)

If you cam not frameserve then convert AVI to final target format.

I hope that helps

Put the DVD in your computer DVD drive. Instead of playing it, explore it. Take the Video_TS folder and drag it to your desktop (or wherever you want to put it).

Inside are the VOB files. That's the vdieo. You can edit them directly (but they're MPEG, so all the problems with editing MPEG apply), or you can convert to AVI, as Anhar says -- though it won't be full DV quality.
