Looking for 'Sony Vegas Movie Studio + DVD Platinum Edition' Feedback

Hi,

I'm looking for a cheap editing program for my film (it was shot on a DVX100b). For those familiar with the Sony Vegas Movie Studio + DVD Platinum Edition program, what do you think? Is it a decent program?
Much thanks!

I've never used it, but i'm guessing its like all the other 1/2assed "make your own movie" editors out there. A wise man once told me "your tools should never hinder your creativity." You won't be able to do a quarter of the things you'd like with an editor like that.

My friend has that and at a glance it looked just like the vegas interface... what is different?

I looked at what it could render as, looking to note obvious things, and did see a few differences there, but didn't see anything when I was just looking around the rest of the program.

Actually I'm sure I missed a ton of stuff because when I was with my friend I had just received Vegas 6.0 and didn't know it well yet.

from what i saw its built off the vegas setup. But then they have removed ALOT of the vegas features. Only supports 4 video tracks, has hardly any effects, including generators, color correctors etc. its like vegas minus all the things you need. I'd say if you want to do it cheap use windows movie maker thats free. Otherwise get a real editor...

okay this might ruin what little reputation i have but...

get adobe premiere elements 2.0 it's like $145 and you get photoshop elements with it. it is one of those "make your own home movies" programs. but for the price it's strong little program. you get a couple of menu templets. it's really easy to use and it's cheap. IMO, it's a good program for what it is.

(side note. i use the pro adobe video collection. premiere elements was the first program i bought for editing. so i have a place in my heart adobe products.)

I have adobe premiere elements 4.0 with photoshop elements 2.0... but it doens't work on my comp for some reason.

I received my DVX rebate, so I probably should go with a professional program. I've heard some nice things about Sony Vegas 6.0. Here's my final question, and it sounds very moronic, I admit:

Do I buy the Vegas 6.0 software in the blue or orangish box?

What's the diff. between the two? Is one an academic version and one the standard version?

not to be blunt but it helps to read the little snips of information next to the pictures. The orange box is just vegas. The blue box includes dvd architect.

Monkey- Thanks for the link. I checked eBay and the Vegas 6 w/ DVD Production Suite runs for around $280. I'll search for lower prices on the web.
