Viewing external monitor on Macbook pro

Thanks for helping troubleshoot this:dankk2:
I'm using a Dell 24in monitor with a 15in macbook pro and FCP 5.1.1
The viewer window or canvas window both play fine on the Dell BUT Digital Cinema Desktop preview freezes in any mode- like FullScreen. I can hear the audio playing but the image just stops.
Thoughts- Anyone? -Dave

Remembering the old Mac days, I deleted the preferences folder and restarted FCP. Voila! Fixed! Go figure?

Hope this helps anyone else with similar problems. -Dave:)
