Box Office Guru and Nacho Libre

How much of a film's budget is spent on advertising?

I ask because I noticed Nacho Libre is listed as costing 35 mil on Boxofficeguru.com and has made 65 mil so far. But my guess is that that movie's marketing budget had to be at LEAST 30 million, as I must have seen Jack Black in a mexican wrestling suit on just about every street corner I passed for the two weeks leading up to that movie.

Is the advertising budget included in that 35 million dollar price tag? Or is that just the production budget? I get the feeling that the studios like to keep it noticeably vague.

as far as i know, its a different figure...the advertising budget is seperate from the production budget...

at least thats what i have heard.

well when people are talking about Superman Returns they talk about the $250 million budget and then they talk about the advertising costing $50 million on top of that.... at least thats what i think i heard

On a side note: everytime I saw one of those Jack Black posters, it made me want to see the movie less and less.

...and I didn't want to see it from the begining.

Haha, I liked it too, but I'm a big Jack Black fan. Every time I saw one of those posters I just laughed...

And I was always under the impression that an advertising budget is on top of a production budget, as it's two different industries, requiring two groups of people. but idk....
