How to mic a pistol competition

I am planning to shoot a pistol competition and my concern is how to control the obvious loud sounds I will be recording. I will be at a disadvantage since instead of using a hearing protector, I will be using my 7506 for recording!

I will be using my PSC Promix 3, Oktava MC012, and EW100G for the project.

My plan is to use my mixer all the time so I can ride the multiple gunshots that will be around me when I shoot (pun intended).

Any suggestion is appreciated.

bring dynamic mic and better mixer if you dont like to get every shot activate the crappy limiter you have , if not at least 30 db pads to insert between your octava and the input ( dont forget the -10db pad you can screw in in to the mic or better 2 like that in line )

Don't get too close. Gunshots are loud enough to blow out a mic and permanently damage the diaphragm. A dynamic is probably a better choice. And you can wear plugs under your earphones or better use the high isolation earphones (basically airport ear protectors with speakers in side).
