does anyone know if the azden upr is the only on cam hot shoe mounted receiver or does the 500udr do the same? I saw a posting in here somewhere with a pic of a dvx with a hot shoe extension bar that had a vid led and a azden receiver but i did not catch if it was a 500 or 200 can any help?

:dankk2:

I'm sure what you saw was the 200. I have the 500, and made a mount out of the 200's hot shoemount. And I've got to say it works great.

thats great id rather have the 500 but where did you get the shoe mount of the 200 do they sell seperately? are the 500 and 200 similiar in size i dont want to take to much more room on the cam? but if i can get the same rig off the 200 and put it on the 500 i will!!

The 500 and the 200 are exactly the same size. Here's what I did...I bought the 200's shoe mount on Azden's website ( http://www.azden.com ), got a piece of metal (roughly the size of the 500), and some velcro. I drilled holes in the metal to match the screws of the shoemount. Attached the velcro to the metal and the 500, and now I have a 500 with a shoemount. Best of all, my sennheiser shotgun mic clears it! I'll try and post a pic or two tonight, so you can see it all together.

Here are a few pics...

I don't know a thing about wireless audio, someone please walk me through this...

I want 4-6 wireless mics to be in use in an interview situation. I want all of those mic outputs to record onto my DV camera.
How does that work? Do I need a receiver for each mic? Is a mixer involved?

Thanks.

In simple terms...YES and YES. I don't know what kind of gear you own (or would be renting), but you would need transmitters and receivers for each mic and a mixer that has 4-6 inputs. Most of the field mixers I've seen have 3-4 inputs. And then run the output of the mixer to your camera. I would give this advice...If your interview is not a discussion between the 4-6 people, interview them one at a time and edit them together. That way you would only need 2 mics. I hope this helped.

ive read the 500udr can run two mic inputs so you can run two mics one per channel and only one reciever am i correct in that thinking?

Thanks. I figured I'd have to pony up some dough.
It's for a band type interview, so I was just thinking worse-case, I'm sure I can get away with 4 mics shared around the room.

Both being wireless, other than not having to hold something, is there any advantage to the lav over the handheld?

By the by, I'm using two DVX-100a's.

bilgami,
The 500 can run two mics with the one receiver, however, you can't run them both at the same time.

the hardcorekid,
Ideally, you would want everyone on a lav. However, I see
MTV and MTV2 using two handheld mics all the time! So if you have a 4 person band, just have two band members share one mic, and two share the other. You have two cameras, so you can probably cut out the passing of the mic when you edit.

what are the dimentions of the 500udr I ask cuz i have my lite with a big sony batt and it takes all the room on my hot shoe ext. i only have 3.5 in long and 2 in tall for the mic to fit with out hitting the lite battery.
