Lost Writings of Robert Rodriguez

I just finished reading Rebel Without a Crew (which I enjoyed immensely) and at the end he talks about a movie he wrote and directed for Showtime before he did Desperado. I didn't know about this so I looked it up. It's called Roadracers and it's unavailable here in the US, but you can get it from Europe.

Anyway, it turns out he wrote a book chronicling the making of that movie just as he did for El Mariachi, this time talking about his first experience working with a crew. It was a small run, and again only available in the UK (aparently he ripped hollywood a new one and was not afriad to name names, making sure we would never see it released in the US).

There's one guy selling it used on amazon for a rediculous $915 and i believe to on amazon.uk for about $250. There's also one on an ebay store for about $250. There was one on auction for $100 with no bids so I emailed him saying $100 for a book is rediculous so if he decides to bring it down, I'd buy it. He replied explaining how rare it is blah blah blah. After the auction ended with no bids, I offered the idea of some kind of lending option, where I could pay to ship it to me, read it in maybe a week and send it back so he could still try to sell it for some ungodly price. He said no. I then gave him a final offer of $60 which he refused.

Point is, I really wanna read this book, but there's no way I'm paying over $100 for it.

1. does anyone know where I can find it? does anyone have it to sell or lend me?

2. It's time this book gets transcribed and made available for free on the net. Anyone know how to do that?

Thanks

Buy it, read it, and re-sell it at the high price people apparently are paying.

We're in the internet age, but the book exists only on paper and is hidden in England!:(

If 10 of us pitch in 10 bucks...

I've read (on Boarders, I believe) that the book is being re-released by Robert's publishing company, Troublemaker Publishing, although it did not have a date of release. For a hundred bones, I'm willing to wait it out.

Same was said for the movie. Rodriguez recorded a commentary and made another 10 min film school, even had a release date for december 2005, yet nothing has been heard since

yeah I bet it would be a cool read but damn 100 to 250 for a book. I don't know. I have payed that much for college and technical books before so I guess you really have to want it.

For a legitimatley rare book, that's not all that expensive (the $900 figure WAS expensive, but $100 - $250 isn't all that bad). That being said, it's only worth what you'll pay for it. Hopefully it will get a rerelease.

I'm thinking I can still get the book for $100. Would some one be interested in splitting the cost with me $20/$80? Whoever pays the $80 gets to keep it and resell it if they wish.

Any thoughts?

no, the problem with that is who gets to keep the book? and if 5 people pitch in, in what order do we get it? who wants to be the fifth guy?

but if you'll throw in 20, I'll put in the $80 as long as I get to keep it

Well, I just sent an email to Troublemaker Publishing asking about the book, along with a link to this thread. You never know, ya know?
