Hello and thanks for any help. I'm trying to import and capture footage from my sony z1u (shot in dvcam mode) into final cut pro. I'm seeing the image, b ut unfortunately, the image in the canvas window is much smaller than in the viewer window -- and I made sure that the fit to screen box is checked -- and yet, I can't seem to get the full image. Please help.

The viewer is showing you what the source material is... while the canvas is showing you how your source will look in the settings you established for your sequence timeline.

You have mismatched source and sequence settings.

Apple-Zero your sequence in your browser window and make sure they match.

Also -- how did you capture this from the sony? What settings?

Thanks CaptainMench. It solved the problem. However, now when I open my project, only the browser and viewer window is open. I checked in the fcp window and everything is checked except for CANVAS and TIMELINE (they are in gray). Any ideas why? and how do I get them back?

Yeah -- what Aravance said...

But FYI -- those two windows are tied to an open sequence. You need to load a sequence from your browser to open those windows.

Captain Mench -- You're right ... for the second time. I don't see a sequence loaded into the browser. How do I load a sequence from my browser? Thanks for all your help.

Maybe what happened is you deleted the sequence?

Control-Click (or right click) in the browser and select new sequence from the contextual menu... or File - New - Sequence.

This will load a new sequence (timeline, but not -- it's a sequence)

Click on the sequence, Apple-Zero to bring up its settings. Set the settings...

Then, dbl click on it to load the Timeline window and canvas windows.

You might also want to choose one of the EasySetups -- this will load the correct sequence settings for you.

Good luck,

CaptainMench, you're a fricken saint. Thanks for taking the time to answer questions for a newbie. I know some of these questions are basic for you and I really appreciate the knowledge. By the way, where in san fran are you? I lived there for 11 years. Went to SFSU and then worked for TechTV.
