We know them. They are the idiot who are trying to scam us into paying them 700-1000$ for nothing.

We know them. They lurk eBay, usually in the Camcorder section. I've seen the majority of them "selling" DVX's. It's terrible.

How to spot them? They dont have "Buy it Now". They start the bid a $99 and within the auction, they tell you to email their email adresse, from where they kiss up to you, and get you outrageous prices (500 for a DVX100B.)
Sad part is, many people have fallen victim to this.

So lets get back at them. Its SO fun, its beyond belief. Ask them things to prove they own the thing they're "selling." I've asked them to send pictures of them holding up two fingers by their camera boxs to prove the have the camera with them. They NEVER send one back- they send pictures of the same camera, but from another eBay auction. Its ridiculous. They get mad and tell you their wasting their time.

And this is the best part- the "Im not a scammer" letter. You ask them if they will scam you, and every fake will respond with this:

"I am a very honest man, honest in every aspect of my life and like to believe that we have a mutual trust.look i live by the rules ...money to me is nothing in life, it`s the trust that it counts,
If you try to scam somebody in life, later on life will scam you back.
I promise, you won't be dissapointed. I am a man of my word. You can count on me.About our deal I assume we are 2 mature persons who want to make a fair deal.
I understand you are a little concerned from this point of view but this is not the case.I am a very good ebayer with a very good rating and my interest is to have very good deals on ebay so i can have in the future good deals. If i will make with you a good deal, you will recommend me ,maybe ,to your friends or to other persons. For me it is very important to have permanent deals on ebay, any negatice deal will not make good to me.That explain the low price.More,i will provide 15 days money back warranty,i mean ,if in 15 days you will change your mind you will resend the item to me on my expenses.I think this is more than fair.
But i need to provide me the payment confirmation, prior to shipping in order to make the shippment.I hope you can understad me and also,i hope we can finalize this deal in the best manner.
You will have my personal quarentee you will receive the item immediately without questions... i promise.
i don't sell my reputation even for 1 milion $.....
Thank you
"

EVERY ONE! I've gotten the EXACT same response four times. And once I say I've gotten that message before, they dont respond. A phenomenon within itself.

Another ironic thing is how all these fake auctions are cancelled within an hour or two of being posted, because eBay gets rid of them. And if you ask them why it dissapeared from the listing, they say they are getting too many emails. He-he.

So post any fun stories, and tell, tell, tell.

And actually, tell me if you've actually PayPal-ed them money, and tell me how that went.

hahaha you twisted man, messing with the village idiots. Seems like a fun activity, I may join in as well.

And the powerbook thing is brilliant, I remember reading about that a few years ago and wishing I thought of it. P-P-P-Powerbook!!

Hehe I love scamming the scammers.

This one time before I bought my DVX I went on ebay and there was this XL2 going for a very low price so immediately I figured it was a scam but I wanted to have a little fun. In the auction his said to e-mail him at his e-mail address because his e-bay mailbox was full or some crap like that making that warning number 2. I checked out how long his account was created and it was about 4 days. Warning number 3. The e-bay auction was set to 1 day making that warning number 4.

So I e-mail the guy asking for more information and why he is selling the camera so cheap and he says

"Because I really don't need it and because I need cash very fast"

So I check on e-bay again and the auction is gone. making it a solid case of a scam. Then I sent him an e-mail telling him that the auction is gone and is it still for sale.

Reply "The canon XL2 is for sale but I have retreat it from auction because a pretender told me that he will buy it, but he didn't.
The canon XL2 is still avaiable! Thank you and please let me know"

I then ask him how much for the camera and what comes with it.
He replies telling me all the equipment that comes with the camera and the warranty info.

I then ask him "Did you relist the camera on Ebay ? If so what is the
item number ? If not how much for the camera ?
Also i'm unable to find any of your auctions. what was
your e-bay username ? "

Reply " didn't relist it. The price is $1200,00 but it is negociable.
Thank you and please let me know!"

I sent him back "I assume that 1200,00 is 1200.00. Also what is your
phone number so we can speak?"

Reply "0040743221242.

Thank you and please let me know!"

My response "Is the $1200 in U.S currency ?
Also where are you located and what is your e-bay Id ?"

Reply " Yes the $1200 is in US currency.

Thank you adn please let me know!"

My response" Great.
Where are you located becuase I don't recognize the
country of the number and what is your ebay id?"

Reply " Romania .

I have lost my ebay- id because some scammers tryed to do fake auctions on it"

My Reponse "
I was wanting to check your feedback rating but I
guess that's ok.
- Also is the camera the PAL Version or NTSC Version "

Reply "I have a PAL version ,"

My response "Ok great.
To setup the transaction we will use an escrow service

http://www.escrow-europa.com/ to make the trade.
- I will cover the cost of the escrow service.
Let me know when you are ready.
Can i also have your address"

From that point on our conversation went to IM and it pretty much went with him saying how he didn't trust escrow because that's what scammers use. I told him that this is the only trusted escrow for europe. I then chewed him a knew a-hole for thinking I was stupid and told him that I knew he was scammer from the beginning.

That laptop scam was wonderful.

I had one personal run-in with a scam artist on Half.com and it's nice to read about someone striking back for the common man.

The P-p-p-Powerbook one is great.

And I'm amazed, the first guy I messed with was from Romania too. He said he had a "Camera Store", and I haggled with him until I could get an HVR-Z1U for 350$ US. Ridiculous. And when I asked him if he could send a picture of my email adresse on a paper infront of the camera box, he sent me a picture w/ no paper with my email on it. I went to eBay, and the SECOND listing was from an innocent guy selling the camera (it was his own personal picture, not a picture from Sony). The scammer actually took that picture, copy-pasted it into my email, and said it was a pic from his office.

Ha.

I got a good one once on ebay...

It was about that the time when the new Apple G5s came out and a guy was selling it on ebay and of course he wanted to settle it out of ebay.

I thought I would play a long, his price was generous, of course, but not super generous. He said he was in California. I asked for a address so I could send the money when we reached that point.

Well my wife and I did some research and found that the address was that of a hotel in california. I emailed him back and said this was a hotel. He said this is where he works. With number and his name in hand I called the hotel where he 'worked' and talked to the Human Resources department. And to my surprise, HE DIDN'T WORK THERE!?!?! Being very concerned for his well-being I emailed him to ask if everything was okay with his job security AND unfortunately he had just been let go.

Well I then definately had to give this guy some cash for his computer now. Hee said I could send him half the money and he would send the computer and then I could send the other half. WHAT A BARGAIN!

To make things easier for him I told him I had some friends that lived not to far from him and I could send them the money and they could pick up the cpu. He said that that was not possible because he was...

DEAF

that's right 'lack of hearing,' and my friends could not visit him because of this. Yep.
