Hiding Shotgun Microphone When Usig Wide Angle Lens.....

Hey everyone,

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem, but here goes. I have a DVX100A, a Century Optics Wide Angle Lens, and I use a Audio Technica A897 Mic with a Rode Deadcat wind muff when shooting in the field. I use the mic holder that came with camera most of the time and I even have a shoe mounted mic holder as well. The problem is that many times when I am zoomed all the way out (Z00) the windmuff is visible in my shots. I have to zoom in to like (Z05) in order to avoid seeing the shotgun mic. I have trimmed the wind muff down as well and yet I can't seem to avoid seeing the mic and windmuff in my shots. Even when I use the shoe mounted mic holder the mic is still visible. Is there a "DVX cheat" to eliminate this? I was thinking of ordering another Panasonic mic holder and virtually "extending" the current mic holder up a few inches to help with the problem. Any suggestions from the DVX Nation? Thanks for any help.

does the mic appear when you use the shoe mount?
i can suggest getting the mic higher up off the top of the cam and maybe pulling it back towards the viewfinder .

Hi there,

I have the same setup basically. I have found that if you get a little piece of card board and rubber band it around the muff where its sticks into the frame it should give you a little bit more room to work with. Hope it works for you.

i have the same set up and same problem so what i did i went to the guitar store and bought a clamp that is used for mics to be clamped to drum set and shcrewed on a mic holder. i put the clamp on the cam mic holder cup and it raised the mic high enough its not in my shots.
