Hello,
If anyone with experience regarding this type of thing can help, I would be extremely grateful!
I've been in preliminary talks with an up and coming network that is interested in a show that I pitched to them. I've researched the background of the individuals who are running the company and, based on their past accomplishments, am very confident the network will succeed.
The network is aiming for a specific type of programming and my show fits the bill perfectly. I will be guaranteed air time, however, the time slot I get will be dependent upon the quality of content of my program and the feedback from the audience.
They will not be paying me for the show but will be giving me a to-be-determined number of minutes of commercial air time during each program that is also dependent upon quality of content and feedback. The question I have is, how do I figure out what a fair number of minutes would be since "quality of content" is subjective and for all I know the network could be telling me the feedback is terrible when it's not? How could I negotiate for a fair amount of commercial air time and under what sort of guidelines? Should I try and negotiate the minutes I get based on the time slot my show airs? If so, what types of minutes should I be able to demand for what time slots (I know, that's a bit of a loaded question).
The show would be an hour long show - 45 minute program in 9 blocks.
The network has more growing to do before they can acquire Nielsen ratings. I will negotiate for specific minutes of air time for different ranges of Nielsen ratings for when the network has reached that stage of growth. What # of minutes of air time should I ask for in regards to ranges of Nielsen ratings of the show?
Please only reply if you have some experience with this type of issue.
Thanks.
