I was wondering how many years do the panny batts last. Ive had mine 2 yrs now and ive notice when the battery meter on my screen gets to half the camera shuts off is that the battery or camer? i have the bad habbit of leaving the battery on the cam 24/7 no matter if the cam is on or off is that a bad thing for the battery?

:dankk2:

Leaving the battery on the camera will constantly drain the battery, so this usually isn't the best thing for them.

Damn Horse.. you know your stuff.. how about when Charging the battery, if it's fully charge and you leave it in the charger will it affect it in any negative way?

I wouldn't leave it on there longer than necessary, but I don't think it's really an issue unless you're leaving it on there for days and weeks at a time.

Some of the earlier DVX cams had a bug, where the viewfinder indicator did not get updated unless the camera was turned off and then turned on again. Normally the camera should not turn off (unless goes into stand-by mode) if the indicator shows half full.

Well, my friend, who has researched a lot into batteries told me that if you leave the battery in the charger even when it is already fully charge should not hurt the battery. He told me that most modern chargers nowadays have a cut-off circuit built in as a safety feature. So when the charger detects that the battery is full charged, it will cut off, thereby stop charging the battery further. The only downside, perhaps is that leaving the charger on consumes electricity.

But it's true that the battery's lifespan depends on the number of time it is charged. So be selective in how many times the batts is charged. I usually try to fully utilize my battery until almost the end, then do a full recharge.
