24p footage not recognised by FCP

I am trying to log and capture footage that was recorded in 24p advanced on my DVX 100B. When I go to cature it in Final Cut Pro it says it cannot recognise the movie file. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Capturing means bringing in from the camera. Is it not seeing the camera? If not, turn on the camera to VCR mode and then view -> refresh AV devices.

It recognises the camera.

I hit capture now, it runs until I hit escape and then a warning box shows up saying it doesn't recognise the movie file.

I tried it also with setting in and out points, then batch capturing. It runs through the capture and when it's over the clip is still offline in the browser window.

I've catured a million times before, but never with this camera.

Does it give any warning of missing timecode? Do you have plenty of disk space?
Try a short section. Capture now is usually problematic.

No warning for missing timecode. I have been trying just a couple seconds of footage and it still happens. I tried to use batch capture with just a few seconds selected but then the clip still stays offline even after it goes through the process of capturing. The capturing window appears, it even says "now capturing", but I get nothin! What the hell. I've used FCP a hundered times and I've never seen it do this. Would you think it would have something to do with the footage being recorded in 24p "A"? I went and changed my capture settings to remove the pulldown.

Very confused.

Not a FCP guy, but I do remember reading that you need to capture your footage as normal NTSC DV, and then use a program within FCP to change the files to actual 24P files. Could be wrong, but hope this helps.

Well that's the thing it doesn't "say" it's captured. The capturing process just ends and the clip is still offline.

So I...set in and out points,
hit batch capture,
FCP rewinds tape,
Window appears with footage and it says "now capturing" at bottom,
as soon as it gets to the out point and capturing window disapears,
i get ERROR, Final Cut pro cannot read this movie file.

24PA is giving me a few problems also... but I did manage to get it captured.

First, if it says "captureing now" than it has to be saving the QT file somewhere on your computer. Find your "capture scratch" folder and see if they're in there. If not... oh well. Start from scratch.

You need to setup FCP for 24pa prior to doing anything... try this:

Open a new project in FCP> in the "final cut pro" tab at the top, click "easy setup"> you may need to click "see all", and scroll to "DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal".

Now your project is set for 24PA footage, and everything is ready. You don't have to change capture settings or anything, because they're already set to pulldown removal. Open a new sequence, and just to be sure, control click it in the browser and scroll to "item properties". Under the format tab, make sure that the "vid rate" is 23.98.

If you had a sequence open BEFORE using the easy setup, it will still be at 30fps, or whatever settings you used last... so be sure to open a new sequence, and check it.

Start logging.

let me know if it works.

check to make sure that you are in progressive mode when uploading, I have had that problem before but it was becasue it was set on interlaced. not progressive, and all the devices acted as if it was funtioning correct, but it was a black screen...

so yeah, try that.
