Scaling and Position keyframing problem in After Effects 6.5

Hi, I just have a quick question regarding scaling photographs in After Effects (using 6.5). I have a load of photographs 2080 by 1544 in pixels.

My problem occurs when I keyframe. I scale down the photograph to my desired size and duplicate the position and scale keyframes. The keyframes from point A to point B are identical, I duplicated then so in theory the picture should be static and not move between those two keyframes. But instead I get a subtle move, the picture tilts up and then back down ever so slightly before reaching keyframe B. This doesn’t make any sense to me, maybe it’s an issue with the size of the photographs.

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding this.

Thanks in advance.

If the image is to remain static, then why are you creating so many keyframes in the first place? I would simply turn off keyframing, and adjust the static parameters.

Why are you scaling down pics? Are you planning on scaling them up again? If not, save yourself some hassel and make them the Comp size.

The problem you are describing sounds like you have the keyframe interpolation turned to easy ease (in/out), creating curves between the keyframes instead of having them be linear.

The project invloves panning through the photographs when its scaled in then scaling out to reveil the whole picture, ie theirs three people in a photo, we pan and stop and each person with the photo scaled in tight then we scale so the photo fits the entire frame reveiling the three people.

So my problem is when the picture is scaled in tight and i create key frames to stay tight on a persons face before moving to the next, i get the subtle when logically it should be static, its driving me insane.

any ideas would be great
thanks.

i typed my last message so fast i just noticed some intense grammar mistakes that make it hard to understand my message, here it is fixed up.

Oneinfiniteloop is right. Believe it or not, AE is doing exactly what you are asking it to do.

AE's default spatial interpolation (how it moves in space from one keyframe to the next) is Bezier. So, when you have two identical keyframes, sometimes the only way to create a Bezier (or curved) spatial path between the two keyframes is to drift out and then back again.

It sounds stupid, but simply toggling it to a hold keyframe will do the trick... option-command-h on the Mac, alt-ctrl-h in Windows.

Right-click on the first keyframe and click on Keyframe Interpolation.
Change Spatial Interpolation to Linear.

Also to avoid more problems, cause someties it's very annoying you can set this from the Preferences | General Tab.
Check the "Default Spatial Interpolation to Linear" option

Thanks allot for the feedback everyone, this solved my problem.

Really appreciate the quick responses, thanks again.
