hey all,

anyone here own a petroff follow focus?

I have the mattebox and it's frakking fantastic, so I'm inclined to just get it, but I haven't heard anything from anyone who actually owns one of their FFs ;)

danke,

I am currently using a Petroff follow-focus with their mattebox, all part of a Zacuto rig. According to the DP who shot with the camera a few days ago, it felt a little stiff but no real complaints about it. I'll be shooting a bit more myself before it has to go back to Zacuto, but, if you already have the matte box, I would definitely recommend the follow focus. It is a very sturdy piece of equipment. I prefer the Petroff over the Chrosziel.

hey ned,

cool, thanks. I own the zacuto plate with the petroff matte box, which I am extremely impressed by. I've used big honking metal ones in the past and this thing is fantastic and super flexible.

So, if you already have the plate and the matte box, you will not be disappointed with the follow focus. Just got back from some impromptu shooting in the park and the follow focus was great as I was chasing a duck for some slo-mo shots in camera. And the Zacuto folks are amazing in their support.

yo, I have the redrock FF and am selling it because it won't mount properly on a zacuto rig. that, and the play bugs me. it's very nicely engineered otherwise, though. VERY impressive for the price.

Elaborate...I have a Zacuto and was looking at the Red Rock FF.

It has a gearbox that actually hits my HVX and prevents the FF gear from lining up with the focus ring completely. It covers 1/4-1/2 of the focus ring (I can't remember right and it's packaged up). Also, you would have to replace the knob on the bottom with a bolt, the knob sticks out the bottom so far that the whole front of the rig is propped up on it.

All that said, it's very well engineered and they have done a good job.
