35 mm adapter and FCP

I'm new here, so don't know the rules. So here's the first post.

I did a small app for a member here. It allows to flop or rotate "35 mm adapter" clips for Final Cut Pro fast and easy, using FCP's XML features.
If somebody else is interested, please let me know. I can upload a demo, which is fully functional , but would be limited by the amount of clips to be converted.

Kind regards
Andreas

I don't know about this one, it takes less then 2 seconds to do it now. But, if you could flip the log and capture preview window I would be interested.

I have an M2 on the way and knowing that this image flip was going to be an issue in post I started talking to Andrea's about ways this could be simplified.

What he came up with is a really quick and simple workflow to automate the process of flipping and flopping all your shots.

Sure, if you only have a handful of shots, you can open each one, add the Flop effect and so on, but if you have a larger project with hundreds of clips, this tool is a life saver; not only do you retain your sanity, but you also save a lot of time and effort.

If you shoot with a 35mm adapter and use FCP, you really should check this out.

I still don't understand what this does that FCP's included filters don't do. Can we get some more details about what makes it different?

I am definately interested in this app. Please advise how to get a hold of it. In reference to BenB's question: by using FCP's flop, you are using up a great deal of your real-time capabilities. By flipping and then importing, you are freeing up your processor.

Yes because one of the things I see as an issue is scrubbing footage in my source window thats all backwards and upside down until I bring into the timeline and adjust it. SO this would be a great solution potentially to be able to batch process alot of clips pre-import into FCP. Boy this M2 solution get better every day

I'll be honest, here: I don't see the point.

In Final Cut, you can double click the .mov file in the project, apply the "flop" filter, then select "horizontal and vertical" even without moving it onto a timeline. After that, it's effectively flipped, and the effect is real time. It doesn't cost any extra compression generations, either, like actually flipping the footage would (although if you never color correct or anything I guess the initial cost of one generation would be the same.) You can just mark in and out points, etc. as you normally would and the flipping will translate into any timeline into which you move the footage.

Under the motion tab of any clip you can set the rotation to 180 and flip the image. A macro what would do it for a whole bin at a time would be nice. Is that what this app does? If the macro would also turn off audio channels 3 and 4 that would be great too. As the HVX records the onboard mics to those channels regardless and it messes with the actual Mic inputs of 1 and 2.

Dudes, you can also just apply the rotation to one clip on your timeline, COPY, then select all your other clips on the timeline that are un-rotated - right click on those highlighted clips, hit PASTE ATTRIBUTES - then select basic motion or filters (check filters if you decided to use the flop filter) then BLAMO WHAMO!!! Instant flipage on everything..

The app modifies the clips in the XML by applying a filter to them - sure you can copy attributes in a sequence, but the clips need to be in a sequence to make this work, you can't paste attributes to clips in a bin or in the browser.
Regarding the audio disabling: this shouldn't be a problem.

The app just takes those things FCP can do, like the Flop and applies it to a whole bunch of clips at a time - I tried this with a huge project, where the XML was about 64 MB and it took 10 seconds.

This sounds cool. Can you please explain exactly how to use it? It's not clear to me from lookng at the page on your site. And, if you could, use words that a second-grader could understand --- I'm not too bright.

This should be a sticky.. you're a mad scientist Andreas!!
There is a new release today, which does have some kind of gimmick: you can add a "filter set" to the clips - though this feature does not do a proof for existing filters. It's not documented yet as well.
Also the audio stuff is working fine here - but there maybe bugs in FCP about audio and XML (I already reported to Apple)
So any help/testing from the people here on the list is appreciated:
take one of your clips into the timeline, delete audio 3,4 or 1,2 drag the clip back to the browser export it as XML, re-import and let me know what happens (kiel@spherico.com)

Andreas
