I have footage shot at 24pa and edited in a 23.98 timeline in FCP5 and I was wondering what are the best settings for exporting and compressing (using Compressor) and burning (using DVD Studio Pro 4) so that it will look the best when watched on a computer?

Well Ralph, I don't know the answer to your question. But if you are pinched for time I would just export in a standard quicktime - not quicktime converstion or compressor - but just export as quicktime, you video shouldn't be over 1 gb big. I'm pretty sure it's a reference file. Drop it into DVD studio Pro and just build and burn.

I know it's simple and you would think with all of the settings you could do that this is too easy - but test it out, i was shocked of how good it looks on my TV. I film weddings and use this format - no one has complained yet = ).

I have been looking for the answer to your question and no one has given me a straight answer - trial and error.

Hope that helped.

I think I found my own answer. You make the GOP length as short as possible. Say 7 in the IBBP pattern. And then it looks good both on the Computer and the T.V. Also I added some filters--restore black by 3/gamma correct by .9/contrast by 2/sharpen edges by 2. All that was done in compressor before I imported into DVD Studio Pro and burnt a disk. Learn as much as you can about compressor and you can do many things such as surround sound and numerous filters to help the finished product.
