Anyone have nNovia QuickCapture or CitiDISK Questions? I can answer them :)

Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Richard Kurtzer from ProCon Digital Systems. We're the worldwide distributor for the nNovia QuickCapture and CitiDISK lines of digital video recorders. I have alot of customers currently using Panasonic DVX100's, 100A's and 100B's and I wanted to make myself available to everyone on here who has questions :) Feel free to post a question or send me an email if you have a question related to the QuickCapture or CitiDISK.

I think the biggest questions you're going to get from this board are:

1) when will the citidisk DVCPRO-HD version be available?
2) does it actually work?
3) when will nNovia have an HVX200 verison available?

1) I'll have my first shipment of the CitiDISK HD at the end of this month
2) According to Shining Technology it will. I know how to use everything I sell. I have a considerable amount of paid preorders for the CitiDISK HD so they'd better work well :)
3) nNovia is putting the finishing touches on HDV for their new QCDeck right now so I dont have any comment at this point about an HVX200 recorder

Richard-

Thanks for the offer on help, I'll gladly take it! I own a Citidisk 100 GB version and would like to know a few things:

1. When I import my .mov files into my local hard drive and then FCP, they seem to stutter in FCP during scrubbing or playback. It's basically a second for the hard drive to get going or something. FCP says when I import these clips (and I can't remember the exact error off hand) that these clips are not optimized for FCP. I'm wondering if Shining is using a different compression wrapper of QuickTime on their DV files that are created when recording to the drive. Have any insight into this?

2. When is the hotshoe mount going to be available? I've been waiting a long time for it.

3. Lately, my Citidisk (after a year of use) has been not recording when I press the record button on the DVX, and that only happens sometimes. Sometimes it works fine. Is there a way to reset the device at all?

Thanks for your help if you know the answers, it's hard to understand their support staff since all of them have English as a second language!

Ted,

Make sure you have the latest firmware revision installed on your CitiDISK. This is available directly from the Shining Technology website at www.shining.com. As far as the files not being "optomized" for FCP, thats gonna happen no matter what with both the CitiDISK and the nNovia actually because they're just a DV file with a quicktime wrapper.

The hotshoe mount is available now as part of a CitiDISK accessory kit that's available with or without an extra battery. Both are available at my website, www.proconusa.com under CitiDISK accessories. Give me a call or email if you're interested in purchasing, I have a couple of the battery-included accessory packs on the shelf.

Your third issue will be fixed with the firmware update since it does reset the system to factory spec. Also, be sure to check out the setup utilities that are included, they let you change different settings on the CitiDISK that are not directly accessible from the buttons on the unit.

Here's a link to the firmware update page:
http://www.shining.com/support/drivers/

Be sure to read the instructions on the firmware updater, there are some non-obvious things you have to do in windows as part of the update procedure that the instructions will tell you how to do.

Thanks,
Richard

Thanks for your help Richard, and I will be ordering the hotshoe/battery pack from you next week. I do have the latest firmware actually and it does not seem to be helping my problem. It's an easy fix, I have to power down camera and CitiDisk, then re-power on the camer and re-power on the HD. Once I do that, it usually fixes the problem. It gets to be a pain in the butt though if I have to do it more than 3 times in a shoot because the Citidisk takes a minute to calibrate when it turns on.

I still love it though despite all of the complaints here... :P

Anyway, I wish there was an answer for fixing the wrapper of the DV file. That is probably the biggest complaint I have had since getting this system. I am aware however that it happens with all of the HD devices, including the Firestore as I have talked to those folks as well. If the companies could let you program it to record in mov files in a Mac OS Extended format partitioned drive just for Mac people that would solve our problems..... I think.... :)

mY Nnovia 60gb quickcapture just suddenly stopped working. Its functions work when you push controls fine until its hooked to a camera or PC. It then will not take any commands from the front controls. Its like it just locks up. The repair at nnovia only has one repair man at their silicone valley operation and want 350 dollar just to look at it....are there any resets or hard resets i can do ...desperate.
