Vegas will not capture HDV

I am unable to capture HDV into Vegas using the following;

Vegas 6d
Sony Video Capture 6.0
1080i recording
Sony HVR-A1E

When the camera is set to the in camera downconvertion HDV -> DV, Vegas (Sony Video Capture 6.0) identifies the device and captures the footage ok.

When the camera is changed to HDV out an error message immediately appears 'The device Microsoft AV/C Tape Subunit Device could not be opened. Please make sure that the unit is turned on and not being used by another application or user.'

I switched the camera on and off, unplugged the cable, restarted Vegas but to no avail.

I dont' think you use the sony video capture when you capture HDV, there is another capture application that should be used from within vegas.

That is what I thought, on the cineform website they say that a basic version of their codec is included with vegas. I have the latest version of vegas and I have looked everywhere for it.

Click preferences, video tab, uncheck "use external capture application".
Remember vegas has a great help function, I just typed in Capture HDV and there it was.

I feel a bit of an idiot, I thought I was using the Vegas help function, but I was actually using the Sony Video Capture Help function which unsurprisingly had no mention of HDV.

I had a feeling I was doing something wrong and having spent hours chasing my tail, I knew I would be told I was an idiot within minutes of my post, and I was!

THANKS
