apple ads

I can say in all honesty; that this ininitial response was not intended to be funny (or controversial), but simply an honest answer.

Yeah... its just a basic question... those ads remind me of THX:1138 All white rooms and stuff... kinda freaky really.

But everything you need to do to make the white look good, you have to do for the greenscreen -- even lighting, watching shadows, etc.. Just switch out the green with white and you're already there.

That's basically true.

However, when lighting green screen you want the background exposed about the same as the subject (or maybe 1/2 stop less) to ensure good, saturated color with which to key.

When lighting for a white background, you need to hit the background with (at least) one stop more light than the subject in order to ensure it looks white and not gray.

Actually, when we light for green screen, we light the screen a lot hotter than the subject... making the subject "float" on the almost neon green background. We pull consistant clean keys using that method.

The amount of light needed depends on the "brightness"/reflectivity of the background color you're keying with.... and of course, your software/hardware.

i light it a little hotter with green as well. just distance the subject from the screen to avoid spill.

as for getting a clean seamless white background, the easy way is to shoot against a white background ... and evenly light it hot.. keep the talent distanced, and then overexpose it by just as much as it takes to get it so that its all overexposed. you dont need to worry about corner shadows when its all out of range. thats the beauty of the white background .. you cant do that with any other color.
