More stupid audio clips... crack a beer and enjoy.

Sound Modulator
We've been having some pretty high energy threads about mics again... and I wish everybody would post more stupid crap that we can all watch... this junk is the icing on the forum for me.

Any-hizz-oo... a buddy of mine called me at the last minute and wanted me to come out to an unannounced wedding... shotgun wedding type of deal... and since I wasn't getting paid and he called last minute I decided to bring the minimum of gear... mics ran direct into the cam... improper distances... etc. etc.

The first bite is the ck69 on top of the trellis... at least 4' overhead... too far for normal quality booming... but still check it out... whispers that nobody else could hear were easy to hear... also I should add that there was an AC unit or something booming bass so I had to trim that off, so the mic sounds more thin then it really is. I always use it with the lowest bass cut engaged too... so it's cut at about 80hz.

Next clip is B6 on a G2 on the preacher... for such a cheap wireless that thing is pretty damn solid... and as you can hear for yourself, I sure dig me them countryman mics.

I'll dig up some more interesting crap also... and keep posting some audio/video so you can see what sound I got in a given situation and how I had to do it... some of the audio is excellent and some is not so great... I know when it's got to be good and I go to more trouble when the need for quality is high... but I also relax when it can be good enough with little effort.

Hopefully this will give some new guys a perspective on what to expect for a given level of gear and a given level of effort.

Thanks for posting those clips Matt. What I love about the B6 is how tight it is...it's easy to hear the lack of birds and background noise coming through it compared to the ck69.

Great stuff!

But the point that I also don't want to be lost is that the ck69 IS too far away... I'm gonna' dig up some stuff where the ck69 was mounted on cam... be back later...

WOW! Both those clips are VERY GOOD for what they are. Considering how far away that first clips' mic is, that quite astounding!

And the B6...well, that's just gorgeous!

Okay, I'll be the first to bite...what is a Mattrig???? ;-)

Again, Matt, sounds great. I want to look into the AKG a bit more...it sounds really good even from far away, though you still do have the wind in the trees background noise problem (I'm not sure there is any shotgun that could solve that problem...not even the exhaulted CMIT). ;-)

i only can jellos you have zero unnatural sound locations . hmm i have to eat **** in the middle of the city 90% of the time ,
quit good example why the cmit is waist of money

I don't want anybody to get the wrong idea about what I'm trying to prove here... I'm just having fun posting clips... and YES I agree that the CMIT is probably a waste of money. I really just wanted to show what's possible when the location is okay and the mic is better then average. Honestly I think the AKG ULS doesn't get the respect it deserves... but I could care less who uses them... I sold a 416 in favor of the AKG system because of it's versatility... having so much to play with right on the mic can be a big help... bass 0, 70hz, and 150hz... in combination with 0, +6, and -10... really helps.

I could use ANY high-end gun and love it though... and later on I'm going to post some audio that was carefully boomed in a challenging situation and some that was carefully boomed in an EASY situation... you'll hear the limits of a mic in a tough environment and you'll hear how incredible this same mic can sound when everything is done right.

For now... how about another clip... this one has a fun second bit... and yeah, the "mattrig" helped me get some really steady handheld shots... it's basically a square figrig with padded grips... I posted about it in the DIY section... pretty soon I'll start making those and selling 'em for next to nothing... it works pretty damn good... if I select the best clips you'd think it was steadicam... but both of these are mattrig.

Third Clip... I like this one... CLICK HERE

The cool thing about this clip is that we had to hike and horseback up to the citadel... and it was pushing daylight as it was... so we're only up there for 20 minutes and this guy tells Dumell (our guy) that we do NOT want to be caught in the jungle on the way back down through this one area that we passed through on the way up... and after a few days I learned that if there's someplace that DUMELL doesn't want to be then YOU don't want to be there either... good times. I can't wait to go back...

I'm at work and can't listen to the clips right now (looking forward to it), but what is "CMIT"?

Ohhh.. the new blue schoeps mic. No wonder I didn't know what it was - waayyy out of my pricerange.

I noticed the Micro Cat on the kid's shirt. What did you use to attenuate wind noise for the guy "fender surfing" with the roller blades? That was impressive wind control!

I couldn't even see what I was shooting at that point... I was holding onto my rig (the square wooden figrig thingy) with both arms and the cam sideways... I couldn't even tell where my framing was other then approximately... I was looking TOTALLY at the side of my cam... mounted on it was a ck69 in a softie.
