Huge Blood Spray - Japanese Style

I've seen some behind-the-scenes clips, and saw one that used an old fire extinguisher, filled with blood and charged (assuming with compressed air).

Check out the extras on the DVD for "hostel."

I know the answer!

I know the answer!

I just went out and purchased exactly what is needed for this effect. It cost me approximately $25. You need a lawn and garden sprayer. I bought the "green thumb" brand. the way it works is you fill the canister with your blood, I'm still working on altering it for use with a thick blood... ie. brain matter. colored water or thin Kero blood will work.
Once the canister is full you seal it up and pump the pressure into it. Like a garden hose you squeeze the trigger for a continuous spray or stream. it sprays more than 5 feet in a stream, and much like a spray bottle the nozzle can be twisted for a desired spread. if you want to use it for a bullet hit or knife wound under a shirt or makeup you should buy another hose and a hose clamp. plug the end of this hose and put a new hole, or slit, in the side.
In a few days I could show you the effects I've achieved if you want, email me with any questions.

Just a quick point, Tarrantino didn't invent ANYTHING! I'm not putting him down, but his whole style is basically "homage".

Watch some Takashi Miike films and the 'Lone Wolf & Baby Cub' series and then go buy an air compressor and get messy.

I assumed he was looking for the towering 10 foot blood spray. If the bug cannister works all the more power to it I just assumed it wouldn't have been high enough long enough or consistent enough. I'd love to hear if it did.

I'm looking for a way to do just about the same thing, ironically, and would also site Sanjuro a good example for the type of spray I'm taking about. Or, for you video gamers out there, the large end-of-round occasional blood sprays from Samurai Showdown would be even better.

The standard hose or garden sprayer type thing, while good for what most people want it for, is great, but not really what I'm (or I imagine Nothingness) is after.
