Hi guys. Can anybody who owns an HVX200 and a Marshall 7" R70P-HDA monitor run a quicky test for me....
The HVX200 should be recording and displaying in the viewfinder 0 IRE as all DV & HD cameras do. You know this because you should be able to see the 3 PLUGE bars in the lower right corner of the color bar screen representing superblack, black & grey. Also the composite, s-video and component outputs should be spitting out 0 IRE as well.
Well see, what I'd like to know is if the Marshall monitors are running at 0 IRE or if they are compensating by adding 7.5 IRE like most all US televisions and HDTV monitors do.
SO CAN YOU DO THIS: Plug your Marshall Monitor up to your HVX200 via component/RGB and turn on the color bars from your camera. If you can see the 3 PLUGE bars on the lower right corner of the color bars on the Marshall screen then GREAT. this means the Marshall is not compensating and correctly running at 0 IRE for DV & HD cameras. Turn up the brightness on the Marshall if need-be. it should look like the picture below:
F.Y.I.
This is the reason why using a regular HDTV as a field monitor for color correction & exposure is *not* good. Barry has repeatedly told us that cutting corners by using cheaper home TV's is not good and to get the right tool for the right job. For example, the Dell W1900 HDTV is a great buy, but like most US televisions, it compensates by adding 7.5 IRE to the inputs. *a bad thing* So DO NOT use this montor for your DP. it is good for shot setup and video village for your director. Also it's cool for focusing, but NOT for exposure or color correcting. Any monitor you use you'll want to see all 3 PLUGE bars.
I'd like to know if the Marshall Monitors show them.
