What is the deal with the Audio in Pro 2.0?

Whenever I play the clips on my timeline out to an external monitor, or export it to tape, the audio has frequent popping noises. The levels are balanced and everything. When I do the same thing in Vegas, I have no audio problems. Is this a known issue with PP 2.0?

Yes, it's a known issue. Make sure that your audio never goes above -6dB. I use Adobe Audition and apply a Hard Limiter set at -6dB on my audio before i render out the video and has never had this problem since a started to limit my audio to max -6dB. Without the limiter - crackling and popping audio.

The issue has happened ot me as well when my system isnt fast enough. Try exporting the audio as a wav file and playing it using windows media player and see if you hear the pops if you dont you know its the system running 2 slowly

I had this problem in prem 6.0 if I used mp3's. It went away if I converted to wav files

^Yea, you need to convert song files to either .aiff or .wav before importing them. You can do it in iTunes (for anyone else that doesn't know how) by changing your preferences to import using aiff encoder, then you select the song and go to advanced in the menu and click convert to aiff.

Is any song/audio quality lost by doing this??

no, wavs are higher quality than mp3s, as are aiff i believe. so converting up to them will not change the quality at all.

i'm not sure that its mp3s or compressed audio that are causing the popping issues though. My older versions of Premiere (1.5 and 7.0) both had similar problems when the audio was "normalized" in premiere. Normalizing in audition to 90-95% would usually rectify any distortion created during export.

..yeah, the popping generrally comes from the system not being fast enough to play back the realtime audio with some effects or crossfades and such. if you "render and replace" the audio tracks it should play back fine since any effects and such are then built into the audio stream and do not have to be processed. there is a command for this off the ppro menu. using the same command lets you not have to convert files outside of ppro beforehand as well since it will process any readable audio and write a seperate .wav file to replace it with on the timeline.
personally i havent seen this issue since upgrading my machine.
