Best portable hard drive for FCP editing?

Just realized i pointed at the 4200 rpm model, which is not so good for FCP. There are also 7200 rpm models with similar capacity there... Pricey though,...

Yes, I use the same for my desktop system...I got the FW400 & FW800 model so i could daisy chain them with my FW400 drives...

I have trusted in LACIE for many years now and they have proven themselves over time for me, I use a 250gig and a 200 gig FW800 Lacie drives withmy powerbook now.

Put in another good word for G-tech, they make super cool lightweight reliable drives that run off the laptop's power. FW800's are fast. :)

I urge you to consider a SATA drive for editing, and FW-800 only for archiving. In our shop, we have decided that all drives we buy from this day forward will be SATA, the new standard. That goes for notebook or desktop CPU.
We just took delivery on 4 LaCie Terabyte drives (for archives), and have to agree with the guys who recommend LaCie. They are really repsonsive on the phone.

I have heard that SATA drives operate at 4x or more the bandwidth of FW800.

They also cost a lot more, I would use them if they were in my budget, but for now I love my FW800 Lacie Drives.

I use a G-Raid FW800 on my powerbook 17" with an AJA IO and can do uncompresssed all day long.

Do you / Can you notice a quality difference with the AJA IO?
