I'm all for the DVRigPro. It's adjustability really helps so I can get a nice comfortable position with the eyepiece. The spring rod also adds that extra support. And once I got the varizoom stealth with the big focus wheel, all the zoom / focus / iris / record buttons were at thumbs reach. I don't think the controls would be as easy to work without the extra support from the spring rod. I'm considering getting a firestore. I'm hoping I can mount that on the back where the weight is. I only wish it came with a bag to store it in.
As for the Magiqcam I think I'm going to stick with it till I am proficient enough to make something of the Flyer. But I have to say have a shoulder mount and a steadicam really compliment each other and I'm really glad I have them both. Once nice thing is they both use the same tripod mount.
The Magiqcam was a sweet deal and I still see them all the time used for a grand. That price for something that has a dual articulated arm is pretty good so long as the gimbal still has smooth action. I added a Lillitput 7" mointor for $139 and an NP-1 battery holder off Ebay for $45. The batteries I also got off Ebay for $38 each but the IDX 400i charger cost me $112. Add the C-stand to balance it on for $179, and that leaves me with a $1600 price tag give or take.
It's all the knobs on the Pag Orbitor that worried me. Too many that could get lose or something. On the DVRigPro there are just two I need to concern myself with. Other than that the Pag Orbitor seemed to give me many options on things I'll proably never do. I hope that's all metal.
Just thought I would chime in here, I have been using the DV rig pro for over a year now, I got mine back when they had the nice leather shoulder pad. I can't tell you how many times that thing has saved my butt. Shooting long days 10-12 hours at a time and having the dvrig pro take all the weight off my arms is a real life saver. I have even loaded it up with my dvx, rods, mattebox, letus35 adapter and lens, I'm guessing about 20lbs, and it's still floats effortlessly on my shoulder, plus the ability to have steady shots with long lenses and almost tripod like stability on wide lenses is a real plus.
and no I don't work for Danny, but I sure wish I did to get more cool stuff
Thanks again Danny, I have send you a mail with my adress. Been filming today and love working with it. The only thing that wasn't to clear for me (from the manual) is how to use it in a low angle?
Thanx Danny, nice to see all the options. I know how to connect it to the front with the wire and all, but there should be a hole (according to the manual) to get the shoulder belt in, I can't find that one?
FWIW I've got a spiderbrace 2, which I really like... but when the HVX is loaded up with zacuto baseplate and marshall monitor it's too heavy... one of the arms on the spiderbrace slipped and rotated under the weight of my full rig...
I was about to order a spider brace, but my rig will be similar to your's and it was good to learn the brace isn't made to support that weight. Just in time!
On a follow up note... I contacted Marcos at spiderbrace and told him of the situation and he sent me a new one with the arms reinforced. I think this will solve the problem. I gotta say his customer service is outstanding!
