Hey guys, I am currently planning out the DVD for my new short film, FLIP. The purpose of the DVD will not simply be to show the short film. Since I shot it on a DVX with a Micro35 adapter, I will be including a TON of special features talking about how to make a short movie. I have already sketched out a rough diagram of the item's I would like to include. If anyone has any ideas about things I may have missed, please reply with them. I want to make this disc as comprehensive as possible.

# The Feature, "Flip" (14 minutes)

* 6 Commentaries
o Director
o Director + Crew
o Director + Cast
o Director + Cast and Crew
o Cast comm (Drunken commentary)
o Special Guest commentary

# Behind the Scenes feature (1.5 to 2 hours runtime)

* Commentary with Cast and Crew

# 10-15 "How-to" Featurettes (5-10 minutes run time each)

* Editing
* Creating the Story
* Sound Design
* Scoring
* Special Effects
* Make-up
* DVD Creation
* "Shooting film on DV"
* Technical specifications
* Gear run-down
* Lighting
* Promotion

# Photo Gallery
# Deleted Scenes

* Commentary with Director

# Outtakes
# "Robot Trouble" - A short film made with same group of people.

* Commentary with Cast and Crew

# Bios of cast and crew
# Storyboards
# Trailer
# Sequence breakdown

Thanks guys!

For sure, I would want to have a "Play All" option for the features. I hate watching short features and having to go back to the menu every time I want to start the next one. Also, will there be any Easter Eggs?

wow, looks like you got it all covered. when will the dvd be out? how much? paypal?

what is the film about, genre?

input? maybe writing of the screenplay and conception of the story.

Danny - Thank you for the "Play All" idea. I really wish more DVD's had that too. I can't believe I forgot that. As for easter eggs, maybe. I don't really like them, but I know a lot of people spend their first few minutes with the disc hunting for them. I probably will add something.

Rasquachemedia - The disc will be done right at the end of October. It will go on sale for $14.99 (direct from my site) or $19.99 in stores. (Paypal always accepted).The film itself is mostly dramatic. It's a story about 2 co-workers on a 2 day bussiness trip in Vegas and the trouble they get into. (More information is available at the blog). I like the idea about the creation of the screenplay. I'll add that to the list of featurettes.

Put me down for an advance copy. I've been watching your blog since you first posted it here. It's got a ton of cool info and pictures. I already copied down the Apperance Release form for future use.

Sounds pretty dang comprehensive to me.

This is the one thing that I have yet to come across in others (it should be standard):

o Cast comm (Drunken commentary)

I will gladly buy the DVD. It is always great to see how other people are getting it done. Sounds great.

For a few scenes in the movie, the actors had to act like they were drunk, so I figured it was only natural to record a commentary where they actualy get to be. I wish I could take credit for the idea, but it is actualy something that Matt Stone and Trey Parker do on some of their discs (Cannibal: The Musical). I started recording my BTS about 2 months before we started filming the movie. It will encompas everything in pre-production (like production design, location scouting, casting, budgeting, ect.), move on to the actual production (we shot 8 hours of BTS for that) and finally move on to post production (editing and submitting to film fests).

Is there any way you could do a DVX user commentary? It sounds really hard to figure out logisiticaly, but I think it would give a lot of good technical information. Just throwing the idea out there.

That's an intresting idea. If I can figure out a way to do it, maybe a DVX user commentary track would work. If anyone has any ideas about how to go about doing that, please let me know. I guess it would be possible to post it online, have people from the forum watch it while recording their own commentary on it, then I can edit those into a DVX-User comm track. Sounds like fun to me. Anybody else?
