Family Vacation and a National Park?

Here's an interesting fun fact about the grand canyon, roughly one person every summer falls in and dies, mostly adult males who are trying to push the limits or show off by climbing beyond the barriers. No child has ever fallen into the canyon. So apparently children have far more sense then adults.

Well as you can see, she was pinned to that cliff wall the whole time. The older one kept running ahead and disappearing behind the turns and stuff and all i could think about was she was going to run and trip over the edge. I must have screamed at her to slow down the whole way up. She scared the crap out of me.

Yeah, that particular trail the Beehive, was pretty scary... The park definitely has simpler ones. I can recommend some good trail books if you go up there.

They have trails around the lakes there that are cool. We picked the intermediate ones i think and didnt expect them to be that scary. You wouldnt be the only one on all fours either. :p
Bar Harbor is freaking amazing also, the only thing about Maine though is the water is freezing cold so dont expect to chill in the water for a long time no matter how hot it is out.

See, this is what I can't wrap my head around... Chris, I've been to Grand Canyon twice, I celebrated my 21st birthday on May 15th and I am not even american. You only have to travel a couple of days by car (which would be an awesome trip on itself, trust me - I've gone Orlando - SF twice with my family, saw every southern state during the two weeks rides) and you're there... I'm not by any means jumping at ya, it's just something I could never get about americans: you, guys, really don't travel much; most never even go beyond the borders of their own state :undecided

So, yes, definitely Grand Canyon. An overwhelming experience - one of those places that make you realize you're just a mere bug on the surface of Earth, unbelievably beautiful, too... "Grand" totally fits here.

My other pick would be Yosemite. Also a gorgeous place, though you would have to travel even farther (but! you could stop by in Vegas :) and visit Universal Studios at the end of the trip - perhaps my favourite place in US, both of them; a must-see for any movie buff).
damn foreigner's right!(joking) Americans don't get around much and when they do they go to another country when they haven't been to their back yard!

Yep, I wish our vacations here were more like taking holiday in europe.... six weeks at a clip, is it? I had to have major surgery to get six weeks off from my job! :crybaby: Not a good trade-off, I assure you. But at least I got paid. heh!

I drove from Jacksonville, Florida to a place called Friendly, New York (an oxymoron if there ever was one! haha!!) to pick up a Harley my dad bought and trailer it back home. So, that was an interesting road trip....with my MOM! :Drogar-Dolar(DBG):
shoot you shoulda called me i would have drove it down:crybaby:

people have the misconceptions on the canyon;drive up and look! no you got to work a little to see the real beauty, it's not all desert and the whitewater rafting is awesome! you're right!

Chris,
why not get your fam's feet wet first in your own back yard on a weekend?

"Stokes Forest" is a LOVELY place; we used to go there a lot. Even has the Appalachian Trail go through it. It's not THAT far, and you'll be amazed you're still in NJ (if you haven't been up to Sussex County before).
You could "practice" to see how tyour daughter takes to walking/hiking in the woods.
Only advice: make sure you're protected against bugs (mainly ticks).
