Indie-Snap Matt Box - A good buy!

My Indiesnap Matt Box (the HD version) arrived today, all the way from Canada. I'm in New Zealand and it took no time to arrive - Todd, the guy who designed the units offers first rate service and is very supportive.

Anyway, to any prospective buyer I would say go ahead, it's a safe buy. Super easy to put on/take off/use, it allows you to use two full size filters, as well as keeping your uv lens protector in place. It also provides great protection from stray light (I ordered the additional side flags with mine) and is aesthetically pleasing too - if you want to impress talent this will do the job.

I don't normally go out of my way to endorse products but I was taken aback by the level of personal input and support Todd provides, so I'll make an exception.

Take a look at indiesnap.com - the kit is everything it claims to be.

I'll admit that it is a great deal. It would be nice if you could adjust the doors beyond their fixed position. I blame this late-ish hour but it doesn't look they are moveable.

Why is the Indiesnap mattebox so big? Is it supposed to be functional or just announce "look at me!- I'm a professional !" ?
Looks cool, but a bit much maybe?

I actually like the fact that it blocks the eye-line from operator to talent - well, for what I'm doing that suits me.

It is functional in that it works exactly as it is advertised to do. If you don't want the bulk the french-flag and side flags can be removed in seconds.

I like the look of the box but am thinking of buying the Cinetactics HD Mattbox. For me the advantage Cinetactics seems to have over the Indi is its easy attached, lightweight, and can be stored without worrying about damage; also Greg from Cinetactics says it can be used with most Nikon 35mm lenses and adaptors. As I will probably be alternating between the 35mm adaptor and HVX lense once it does the job and I dont get any vignetting I think it might be a better option. I guess its either this or else an expensive box such as the Petroff which appears to be one of the most easily attached to both HXV lense and adaptors . Just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on the best type of Mattebox for use with both HVX lense and 35mm adaptors ?

Ha ha WHOA, that thing is HUGE. It almost looks like it will funnel light into the lens! It reminds me of those things people use to tan thier faces.... well I hope it works, but the angle of the mattebox is wide.

I would say any mattebox that supports wide angle 16:9 would be good for both. I think the important thing to look at is where you are going to find your rail supports. With those lens adapters like M2 or Mini35, the damn things get LONG.
