First Photo with Nikon D50

I am a newbie when it comes to still photography.

I got my Nikon D50 recently and this is one of the first pictures I took with it.

I would love to get some pointers/suggestions on things to improve.

Thanks,

Chris

It's pretty good for first shots, the subject isn't to centered but we can't see her eyes which could have shown how concentrated she is. Otherwise, lighting is good and I agree that the red is really poping and the blue too. Overall, it's a very nice picture.

I think that is a great picture. I got the D50 also and love it. It is an amazing camera and I'm finally learning all the manual control settings. The color correction looks good, the blues are really popping and the white and blacks seem dead on. Good job, I'm just curious as to what lens you're using.

Thanks a lot.

I am also slowly learning all how to turn off all of the "auto features" and work manually.

I believe I used a Nikon 80mm lens for that shot.

I went to Barnes & Noble and got this book on the D50. It was like $20 and goes into all the little details of the camera and how to correctly set things up. I think it is a great tool and well worth the investment.

I've been building my AF collection of lenses and now need to just bite the bullet and finally start getting some prime lenses. That is a really nice solid shot though, so very good job there.

LMAO. It's not the camera, it's who's behind it. And on that level, I've got a lot to learn.

I was just looking for as many megapixels as I could afford because I don't want to have to upgrade for a long time. And it had to be Nikon to be compatible with the lenses from my film Nikon camera.

That's a great first shot. I like how the pattern in the dirt reflects the body position of the fielder, contrast of the yellow hair thingies with the blue uniform, use of rule of thirds in the composition to show expectation that something is coming from the left and how the other fielder balances the shot. Well done.

Thanks a lot for the feedback.

I'm liking still photography a lot and I'm hoping that a lot of the composition and color skills I learn will hopefully transfer over to moving pictures as well.

Thats a great photo. I love the pop of the colors.

I took a bunch of photos, but that was the lone one that stood out. But perhaps that is the beauty of digital photography, you can just keep shooting and delete the junk.

And, hopefully over time you learn how to shoot more good stuff then junk. :)
