Frustration. Adding effects is killing my footage...

When I import my footage to PPro2.0, all is great until I start applying effects to the timeline. Then the footage gets glitchy and blurry. But if I freeze a frame, it looks perfect again. The footage is only bad if its being played.

Thinking that it won't be a problem once I export it to a DVD, I did and I was proved wrong. Super blurry and glitchy even on a DVD!

How do I fix this problem?

Information: 24p footage 16:9 Squeeze

what kind of effects have you applied that makes this occur. I feel like this might be related ot the issue i am having that i posted in a diffrent thread

try selecting your preview quality as "full quality" instead of "automatic" which it likely is as the default. this should preview in.. well .. full quality, but you may skip some frames here and there on heavy effects pending your system for real time playback. as far athe output, its going to be entirely up to your output settings. if your still having issues just reinstall.

Weird. It sounds like you just didn't render, but if it's on a dvd too, then... hmmmm.
Are you sure your settings exactly match your footage? (16:9, frame size, frame rate, etc?)

ugh...now it just got worse...everytime i try to export to DVD, the program just closes. No warnings nor messages. I tried a fresh re-install and still the same crap.

What footage are you using, footage from a DV-camera?

okay here's what i think, cause the same thing kinda happened to me...i looked all over the adobe site and i found a couple possible things

-it's "system related" in other words you might not have a "strong enough" computer. i have a sager laptop and a HP that i do my editing on. my sager runs a 3.4 HT P4, 2GB ram, geforce 6800 go and the recommended 7200 rpm drive. (yeah it's hot as hell. i have to have my lapcool on and i had to change the thermal paste on it.) anyway, the point is even with all that once i add a effect to the footage i have to render it or it doesn't play in real time.

- the output problem: try installing adobe media encoder. i had this problem too. i didn't have media encoder and i would almost finish the encode and it would come back with a "out of memory" error.

-scratch disks: adobe loves to have scratch disks. they say it makes the encoding and general work flow faster if you have more then one hard drive to give to them. i really can't vouch for this one. i only use one drive on both my systems.

-one thing i look out for is that little red line that pops up on the timeline above the clip i applied the effect to its like a "real-time indicator" if it's red it wont play back in real time. if it's green then it will. to make it "green" render your footage down.

thats what i think is causing my non realtime play back. i could be wrong though.

if anyone thinks any different please let me know.

I wonder if you have another mpeg2 codec on your system that PPro is picking up instead of the Mainconcept one. This can happen if you've had some other video editing program or mpeg2 encoder on your system at one time. From what I've seen, even if you remove the package, they rarely clean up any codecs they've registered. Unfortunately WinXP does not provide any means of managing video codecs that I've seen. You have to use one of a number of freeware tools for managing codecs in the registry.

After uninstalling and reinstalling PPro2, I was able to burn 1 DVD but immediately after, the same problem.

Averdahl - Yes, I'm using 24p (f5 setting) from the dvx100b

VMajor films - I have a similar laptop (dell) but good point about the red bar. I might have to play with that. Thx

Teledan - Mainconcept one? Is this another codec that I need to install?

I had a weird problem that I couldn't find a solution for, so I ended up calling Adobe's Expert Support. They were very nice, very helpful, and even though they couldn't fix my problem over the phone, I was able to get back up and running based on their suggestions. And because they couldn't be sure they could fix it, they didn't charge me anything!
So I recommend calling if you can't find a fix here or on the Adobe forums. I think it's $35 for a single incident. Like I said, they only charge you if they fix your problem.

try render preview....
i'd say your pc isnt strong enough.
If your video is fine with effects applied but turned off... your comp needs more juice
