Russ Meyer movies

Are any of you fans? I sure am, and not merely for the giant boobed women.

I am amazed by the cinematography in his films. The camera angles, the edits, and the overall pacing are just so interesting and incredible.

Years ago, I'd only ever seen Faster Pussycat. Of course I was in love with Tura Satana, who wasn't? LOL But in recent years I bought a dvx and started working on my own project and started buying lots of books on indie-filmmaking. I soon got into certain directors, and Meyer was one of them. Truly a pioneer. Last winter I purchased the Russ Meyer bio Big Bosoms and Square Jaws and proceeded to purchase a bunch of his movies.

I've seen Motorpsycho, Mudhoney, Wild Girls Of The Naked West, Finder Keepers Lovers Weepers, Pandora Peaks, Supervixens, Eve ANd The Handyman, and Beneath the Valley Of The Ultravixens.

I love them all although I think Mudhoney, FKLW, and Ultravixens are the best of the ones I just mentioned.

I am just amazed at how interesting Meyer is, such a character, a true auteur, not only writing, lensing, casting, editing, and distributing his work but also carrying the camera!

I have yet to see Loran, Vixen, Immoral Mr Teas, Common LAw CAbin, up, and Beyond the Valley of the Dolls but all in due time.

The one I didn't really like was Supervixens mainly due to its drawn out ending and weak lead male actor. Charles Napier was good but the weird brutal violence early on in the film threw me off a bit. The camera angles/editing was top-notch though.

Now that he's dead, the DVDs are readily available. Even at Amazon.

Saw Beneath...Ultravixens and Up as a double feature back in the day. Ordered the DVDs, but they haven't arrived yet, so don't know if I liked 'em cause they were good or because I was 22.

Just as a side note, Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens was written by Roger Ebert using the name R. Hyde. He also wrote Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

I always thought Tura Satana was a skank personally. I always preferred Haji

I've only seen a couple Meyer films but appreciate them for what they are

Does anyone know where to get a copy of "Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill" that does not cost $80.00? I haven't looked around lately but I remember looking around for it on VHS and it cost an arm and a leg. Help a brother out.

Ha!

John, it's funny that you should say that...

Satana is one of my closest friend's step-mother. No ****.
