CinePorter™ FAQ

Endurance Man,

You asked that question just in time. As I have mentioned in the past, one of the reasons we haven't published an official release date is due to the inability of some of our vendors to commit to delivery dates of parts. One of the largest hold-ups has been the new HDDs. We just got word today that we cannot expect delivery until sometime in August. We expect that it would take 2-4 weeks after that to deliver the product, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

We'll keep you posted and look for more info on our site starting next week.

has anyone seen the new cineporter

$3500US for 320Gb and 160 for $2200. QUestion is if I prefer not to place this unit under the camera,
would it hold anywhere else like say my Zocuto gear. If you they market the unit with photos of it under the HVX than it must have a screw on for a tripod or anything else. My logic anyway.

IS it possible for SPec-Comm to give Jaredd a test unit, like pronto?

Zacuto is one of our dealers and great guys to work with. You will be able to get the CinePorter from them as well. They actually have a "pod" to mount the CinePorter in a different place. We have extension cables to mount it elsewhere as well.

We'll be adding an accessories section soon. There you will see a Tripod plate that mounts underneath the CinePorter, as well as a plate that has an adjustable handle on the left side. Making custom plates for other mounting options is very easy. We have provided threaded holes on the bottom of the unit which are structurally placed.

Wow I have seen it, some questions:

As I understood... do we have to buy an optional plate in order to use the Cineporter in a tripod or some other camera mount? so will we lost the mounting holes?

Can we buy a 160 GB Cineporter and upgrade later to 360 GB?

Is the 360 GB version, configured as Raid 0?

Can it been connected to a Computer and start editing? or have to download-convert-consolidate, etc?

Can be the Cineporter content downconverted to tape? (DV)

Can we download the manual in other to get wet on it?

Sorry but I have so many Q? in my head about such a marvellous device.

cineporter PAL Version

cineporter PAL Version

I read through this thread and saw people signing up for a PAL Version of the device. But neither on their website nor in this thread I found any information on the PAL Version.
Is there going to be one?
Is it going to be available (in europe) at the same time as the US Version?
How much is it going to cost in Germany? Or can you name a german vendor?
Thanks in advance for answering

Hey david, have we established if there will be a group buy?

Also I see that the 160gig will do 400 mins of 720p/24pn. How is that math done, a 4 gig card does 5 mins of that right?

It's my understanding that P2 products are format agnostic so I believe that there isn't a US or European version, just one P2 product. The only issue I see right now is getting the resellers distributing it.

perfect,
we are looking forward to a great alternative
when will you announce the date?

There are a couple of things I have mentioned in the previous posts that still need nailed down. Then we will announce the date. I would hate to announce a date and then keep pushing it back.

Yes, the Tripod Plate is an option. I'm not sure what you are asking about the mounting holes? Do you want to mount more than one adapter plate at a time?

You can upgrade to a bigger model, but you will have to send it in to do so. The dual drive model is user switchable between RAID 0 and 1. It just takes a minute to format. You will loose everything on the drives during the switch, so make sure it's empty.

The CinePorter™ will mount as a Mass Storage Device using FW or USB, so you can edit directly from it as a source. If you are using a REAL real-time editing system, we suggest copying the files to the local drive. You can also connect it via the CardBus slot for a much faster connection.

We'll have a basic manual up as things such as functions and Menu structure get finalized, and we'll keep updating it until the release.

Feel free to ask ask as many questions as you like. I'm sure others are out there just looking and have the same questions. As long as it's not proprietary information and time permits I will try to answer them all.

Hi
Can't you add a second dvi slot on the next version? So we can monitor with a basic computer screen... without buying a 1500€ marshall 7"...

Since it's a p2 device, i think it can record 24fps, 25fps,30fps, 50fps, 60fps....

And what about 5pin xlr power. Is it region free, or only 60hz ?

Since the P2 cards are working on all formats, it sounds plausible that the cineporter should do so as well. That would answer the first question. The questions of availability and pricing remain. There are resellers for the firestore, but I haven't seen the cineporter being mentioned anywhere.
Anyway, it is still a long time until it is going to be on the market...I was just curious, it is definitly an important product.

We are still working out the distribution outside of US. We are looking at the possibility of attending IBC and hope to have everything worked out by then.

The CinePorter™ will be universal, however, we expect that testing with European cameras will delay export to slightly after the US release.

This is my understanding as well, but engineering still needs to do all the testing.
Export and distribution have been a bit of a hurdle to get over, but we are
working on it.

There are certain compliance measures we have to go through as well.

Is the casing plastic or metal? and the price is that the MSRP? if so, like any other product, we could expect that price to go down via third party outlets.

We chose a very high quality DVI connector because it is very sturdy and inexpensive. But most of all it can handle the speed necessary. It has NOTHING to do with DVI as you know it. Don't try to plug a DVI ANYTHING into it. We new this may confuse some. We have just been introduced to a new connector that may work even better. It will not resemble anything you may be familiar with, so the "DVI" connector may be changed when the CinePorter™ goes into final production.

Recording frame rates will be determined by your camera.

I'm not familiar with 5pin XLR power. The 4 pin XLR takes 12V DC, so no issues with frequency.

There are some European vendors that are already advertising the CinePorter™. We have asked them to stop or at least to curtail it until all distribution issues are resolved.

The price is MSRP. I suspect that dealers will discount it. We will NOT set up everybody and his brother, but few select dealers that represent our values.

The final production enclosure will be light weight alloy similar to the HVX.

So if someone buys the 160 and later wants the 320
they could ship the 160 back to Spec-Comm and get it upgraded (by replacing the HDD)
correct?

HOw much is the upgrade and the turnaround?
