Regional Indie Filmmaker Networks

Hey guys, I dont know if you guys have thought of this before, or even tried it before, but it would help a ton of people out.

I live in L.A. and there are tons of schools here and students/recent grads looking for breaks as well as working guys looking for more experience or to try a different kind of project, and we all know these guys because we've worked with them on projects. Also, walk into any bar/restaurant in L.A. and 99.9% chance the server is in from Podunk and is looking to become an actor. Heck, I've been running into too many lately that already have their SAG cards.

Point? Well, I'm a full time photographer and 100% of my business comes from a similar network. All my jobs are word of mouth and it all comes from people I've worked with before. Makeup artists, hair stylists, stylists, designers, models, actors, etc. I refer them for jobs, the refer jobs to me, it's a beautiful cycle.

Now what I'm thinking here, is not a JOB network, per se, but an Indie Film network. I have makeup artists, special make up effects artists, physical effects guys, hair stylists, wardrobe people, and actors. Now if some of you guys have sound guys, composers, cam operators, DPs, screenwriters, etc, - all looking to work cheap/free on a project they believe in to get a good reel/credit - then that is what I'm talking about.

People who understand that 2 days out of makeup school they should be thrilled they are asked to work on a short for free for the reel and credit or even a feature for the same.

I have these people. Who do you have? I, and others, may need them. I'll share if you share.

Not a super flashy title, so I dont expect much views, and from the view count, it's no surprise there are no replies, but I've now read a couple other threads where people have asked where to find crews willing to work on no pay projects so there seems to be some demand there.

Or has this subject been talked to death so no one cares anymore?

I'd let it die, but I need a sound guy, so here I am bumping.

i could give you the name of a dp and a sound guy that I work with. but the problem is that they're good... so you know... they charge a daily rate.

That's what I'm thinking, Noct. I'd even set up a site for the LA chapt. I'd have no incentive for other areas.

And Cyg, I know how that goes. I have plenty of friends in different aspects of the industry, but they're all too good and too busy working to help with a no pay gig at least anything longer than a day shoot.

Thing is, there are so many people starting out that need experience.

I have tons of makeup connections and I had a makeup girl - no experience at all and two weeks out of makeup school say that she need "full wages" to work a project. She interviewed by showing snapshots of her school classroom asignments.

I dont expect the world to work for free, but at least come back to reality.
