Event Video ... Bits of Knowledge ... lessons learned

Just thought I'd start a post for event videogs to post lessons learned along the road. One that I keep thinking about as I'm editing a retirement party video ...

- I realised I was not going to be able to tap into the house audio. This place had quite a crafty set-up--XLR outlets on the wall, like power outlets. Da*#&$! If only I had an extra XLR cable. And no handheld to strap onto their handheld posted on the podium. Alas ... I've got it! Craftily hide that PZM mic in the podium. Yes, that'll do it! NOT. Now everytime every speaker slams his hand on the podium to emphasize that statement he just made, or even gingerly places his hands upon the sides of the podium, my highly sensitive PZM mics picks up the sound. Aaarrrgg! :kali:

What I've been doing is, since I had shotgun mounted on cam, whenever there's a podium sound from the PZM, I'm able to edit that out in the NLE and replace it with cam sound so there's no complete lack of sound. However, when a speaker taps the podium WHILE speaking, it's all but impossible to edit out without also losing the words or having a noticeable change in audio quality.
