GRACIE vs HUGHES who will win?

everybody is saying Matt will win but i got a feeling that Royce may pull it off with submission.

MY vote is for Matt. Hoyce is awesome still but he has been out of the UFC for so long. It is a different animal now. He may have the submissions but without striking he is at a disadvantage. I'm not saying he doesn't have a chance, but I asked someone who trains in Gracie's dojo in NY and they said they didn't think it was a good idea. And he said he was in the entourage when Gracie lost his first MMA fight . Not the UFC, can't remember which one though, I think it was in Japan.

I prefer the old days of the UFC. Back when it was actual martial arts styles against one another. Now it's just too homogenized for me. Everyone fights pretty much the same style (wrestling with a punch or two thrown in) and they're all from Iowa.:)

I've got some money on Matt, for obvious reasons. The one thing that scares me though, is the fact that 3 of Matt's 4 losses are to jiu jitsu guys (Dennis Hallman and BJ Penn), the fourth being a somewhat lucky knee to the head.

I really respect Gracie, but just don't think he can pull it off. We'll see.

Horse-Back in the old days, everyone fought the same-Jiu Jitsu. If you didn't do Jiu Jitsu back then, you were toast in a matter of seconds. Now it seems more well rounded because if you don't know alot of EVERYTHING then you're going to get your ass knocked out or submitted. Chuck Liddell was a championship wrestler in college, but never takes the fight to the ground. BUT, if it does go there, he is relatively well versed.

Unless it's Coutoure that takes him there :)......

Hoyce will OWN Matt.

Can't wait to watch it.

At least it'll be a better fight than the upcoming Shamrock/Ortiz debacle.

I want Hoyce to win, but Matt's prob going to pull it off.

But Hoyce in his prime back in UFC 1-3 would kick Matt's ass.

Word.

Who is "Hoyce"? I can't believe how many peeps have typed "Hoyce" in their replies instead of "Royce". Heh heh... :)

Damn I am pw3nd (sp?).

Wonder why others did it, I thought his name was actually Hoyce Gracie not Royce!:dankk2:

I dunno... I Googled "Hoyce Gracie" and actually got a few links that were about "Royce Gracie", but when I check the official website it clearly says "Royce Gracie".

The reason I noticed is that I have shot several videos with Martial Artists including some UFC fighters like Gracie, Couture, Liddell, and Ruten.

I'll be routing for Gracie. He is a smart and humble fighter. Not sure he can keep up with the new level of power/strength in Hughes and today's UFC. Technique is useless when you are hit by a truck. I also like Hughes, as he retains some class as well. Man, going to be a great fight. If it wasn't for shooting hero-fest, I would have forked out the $ to get a hold of some tickets.

Anybody watching on Pay-Per-View?

Everyone at Century Martial Arts called him Royce during our video shoot.

I just heard a radio advertising saying Hoyce Gracie. And a friend told me that in Portugese the R sounds like an H. This info is not from someone who speaks Portugese though.

And I am thinking about getting it but I am going nuts editing and trying to learn some after effects to see if I can get a couple special effects shots added in. I may not be able to learn how to use after effects and then be able to succesfully accomplish the look I am going for. But I am going to bust my arse trying!

And I agree that they are both class acts. The only thing I see is that Royce has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Anyone know the Vegas odds?

Quit typing HOYCE!!!! That is not his name. All the R's are pronounced as an H.

Renzo Gracie = Henzo Gracie
Ralph Gracie = Halph Gracie
Rickson Gracie = Hickson Gracie
Ryan Gracie = Hyan Gracie
Royler Gracie = Hoyler Gracie
Rocy Gracie = HOYCE GRACIE

I won't really pay attention to this stuff until they start drug testing these guys. I know a guy who trained at the Lion's Den for about 6 months and he said that every one of the guys was juicing. If you weren't, you might as well go home. He did. That's the biggest problem I have with the sport. Just look at how the guys look and act and you can't deny that they're on the 'roids.

Rules aim to make a sport out of chaos
White's reorganized UFC is more like boxing than the blood sport of a decade ago. He has weight classes, five-minute rounds and time limits. Judges use 10-point scoring. Fighters wear gloves and mouthpieces. And yes, there's mandatory drug and steroid testing.
White has instituted rules to moderate the made-for-TV brutality: no attacks to the groin, spine or throat; no head butting, biting, eye-gouging or hair pulling; and no kicking a foe when he's down.
"When (UFC) first started, we could not sanction it because it was no holds barred, anything goes," says Marc Ratner, executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission. "Now, it's a real sport. And we're delighted to have it here."

for whatever this is worth they SAY that they're drug testing now...
