This is Tom from VariZoom. We now have an optional big wheel accessory for the focus on for our various HVX controls.

We had this at NAB and about half of the users chose this option. It gives you much more incremental control. You can adjust with your thumb or use your left hand and control the focus while zooming with your right hand.

The new big wheel option can be ordered for $29.99. and changes out easily for those of you already using the control.

The big wheel knob is anodized aluminum with a white plastic face on the right side to allow for marking stops with an erasable marker.

wow! thank you for rising to meet the demands of the consumer...to be honest i was set on buying a zoe-foxi up until now primarily because it has the big-wheel dial and a markable surface...now i will have to wait and hear the use reaction to this upgrade before i make a decision - looks great tho!

I'd definitely like to to get one of these, but there's no way to order it on the VariZoom site yet. How can I get ahold of one?

Excellent news! I contacted varizoom about the 25ft extension cable for the unit and they told me it would be available within the next two weeks.

I liked the bigger wheel you "teased" me with at the booth. So I'm thrilled I can actually get it now.
And that 25 foot extension? Sign me up again!
Just the right amount of size and function all in one small package.
 
Over the last 30 years in broadcast, I've learned that if someone makes a product to make my life easier, I'll gladly pay them enough to make it worth their efforts. It also supports future products from them.

Heck, you can buy and raise your own chickens or you could buy a chicken sandwich for a lot more money.
Having someone raise, kill, process and package a nice chicken breast is well worth paying them for it.

Maybe not the best analogy, but you get my point.
I've built our own Doorway dolly, jib arm etc. But I'm usually happier with a product built by someone like Tom.
I'll gladly pay the $30. Besides, it looks cooler then something I'd glue on.:)

Does the varizoom unit have a set constant zoom switch/dial? My Varizoom LANC unit had a speed dial for my zooms which I need. Thanks!

How long do you think it takes to turn a piece of aluminum on a lathe, Knurl it, drill and tap it for a set screw, de burr it, sand it, then anodize it, then turn a piece of plastic on a lathe to match and press fit it and then insert a set screw ?

If you have an alternative that is cheaper post it or I'll buy it from you.

I could have bought a couple more units with what I left at the craps table!
So getting your handy tool was a great value! Looking forward to getting the wheel and extension cable.
