Anybody fairly talented in LA?

I've been looking and not yet found a suitable writing partner in LA. I have plenty of ideas and am a fine writer, but I find that I never complete anything on my own. My previous writing partner is too busy at the moment, and I'm feeling the need to write.

If you're in the same boat, meet me on the bowsprit and say hi!

Because I've got a million things to do and the attention span of a gnat. But if I have someone nagging me to stay on task, I can do it.

I get what you're saying.

I always write. I think up until a year ago I had been writing more, but now it's coming back. Like a new wave.

So to the point that I am re-writing a lot of old stuff, and mushing ideas together.

I'd totally partner up with you, but I suck. =P

Well, most people do. I have enough friends in development to categorically declare this to be true. I don't think *I* do, but on the other hand, a lot of those people who suck are actually finishing screenplays, which I'm not. So, point to them, I guess.

If you wanna send me a sample or do a trade or talk about your interests or great interpretations on life or whatever, feel free to PM me!

Why would a dedicated screenwriter want to partner up with someone who 'has a million other things to do'?

Might want to re-think your sales pitch.

I tend to agree with ya.

LOL.

I have people read my stuff (Select few. Hey look, there's one of them now!)

And I get tips from them and feedback. I think partnering up to write would take away my control. And not that I'm a control freak, but I like to write what I like to write, y'know?

If I want to be like alveraz and make lots o'cash in the CA, I best do that.

It's not a sales pitch. And I'm not necessarily looking for a "dedicated screenwriter". If that's your approach, obviously what I'm saying won't make any sense.

If your approach is that you have some ideas that you'd like to explore, don't yet have a perfect and immutable vision with them, and could use another set of eyes just to see what develops, then maybe you'd understand. If the ideas you want to explore are similar to the ones I want to explore, then great. If not, no harm done.

Of course, I respect those that have a perfect immutable vision as well (except for that, as noted, those visions are usually incredibly flawed). If you're not open to critique, you're probably gonna have a real hard time getting anything done in life.

And also... to defend Kholi... if someone likes to write by themselves, its fine... but I am sure they show the script to others and ask for critique (I know personally that Kholi does do that).

Exactly. I just choose certain people read and critique. And trust me, I take as much advice as I can.

In fact, Briceman actually added some input that totally made my HEROfest script (though we didn't get to film it) like 2x better.

Brian are you sure you need a partner? You sound very sure of your writing. =DDD I wish I had that much confidence.

I think that we might've taken that the wrong way. It seemed to say, in short "You should let someone read your stuff or youain't getting anything done in life."

I didn't see it as an attack, though.

Nope. Just summarizing past experiences working with writers and directors who had a "my way or the highway approach". Generally their entire projects ended up taking the highway straight to Crapville.

Doug,

If finishing your projects is always a problem, I would asumme your lead up to prepping for your works is the problem.

What is your 'prep' for a project - before plunging in?

Logline/Outline/treatment/research/characters BIOS...
