Is there any way to import a Premiere File into FCP?

So, we're just wrapping up a music video shoot, the director is cutting it on his Adobe Premiere system, and I wanted to do some color correction and effects on my Final Cut Pro system. Any suggestions on how I can painlessly import this project? I have FCP 5, but I'm not sure which version of Premiere he has. Thanks.

Unfortunately Automatic Duck does not yet support Premiere > FCP with their plugins, so your best bet is probably an EDL. Or perhaps consider doing the colour correction and effects in After Effects.

You want to take WMV9 files from Premiere, bring them to your Mac. Get Flip4Mac (.com) and install it on your Mac. QuickTime Pro can then read native WMV9 files just fine. Convert them to QuickTime NTSC or whatever. Very great quality codec, will keep your visual quality up, too.

I think he was looking for a way to convert the project not the media. and for the media I would go with uncompressed .avi or animation or something..

I'd go with WMV 9, super great quality at higher settings. AVI and Animation codecs won't go cross platform as easily. AVI not as good of a visual quality. I've doing this almost weekly for a long time.

Yeah, I have the original footage, it's already imported onto my computer, I was hoping to find a way to just get the edits and the actualy project imported.

Also, we did some tests for quality and found that just using the Quicktime codec on Premiere looked the best, at least on his system. Is the WMV 9 codec really better? Thanks

no it isnt, stick with quicktime if it's working for you.

You have to use WMV9 to go from Premiere to Mac. I don't know that Premiere will export QT natively. You could get QTPro for Windows and use that. But if you have to use Windows native media, Flip4Mac's WMV9 is a super clean codec. As good as any QT codec, pretty much.

As for taking a project cross platform, well, I know folks who've done it successfully, and more who couldn't do it.
