Video mosaic

So, I want to make a video mosaic sort of thing. Imagine this:
Mosaic.JPG

But with the source shots and the target shots moving. Any idea?

Well, at first thought, you're going to have a hard time keeping a solid image together on the whole. The reason stills work is because they don't change so the dark parts of the eye don't all of sudden become something else. It would take a lot of planning to keep video in each tile roughly the same the hold together an image.

Second, that's going to be one of hell of a comp, and you'll probably have to work with low rez proxies, then spend a good chunk of time rendering. I hope you have a hefty computer. This will really depend of how many tiles you use, but if it's anywhere over 200, brace yourself.

VERY, VERY, VERY EASY!!!!!!!

Studio Artist does this! No low res proxies, just a lot of rendering time once assembled. It works intelligently with you. It's awesome. Nothing else in the world like it!

I've done one, a bit to learn, but once you do, it's great. And the learning curve takes much less time than doing it manually. It includes a ton of video tutorials, and one of them shows step by step how to do this.

They have a great user forum at:
http://www.wwug.com/cgi-bin/displaywwugindex.fcgi?forum=studio-artist

The company can be found at:
http://www.synthetik.com

Be forwarned, this is the only application of it's kind in the world. The interface is unique, but easy to learn very quickly. It is NOT PhotoShop. It does VERY different things than PhotoShop. Not to mention PhotoShop is a filtering application, meaning all pixels of the original are altered to get the result. SA doesn't do that. It looks at the original for information and builds the result from scratch. Not to mention totally non-distructive! Original stills and video are never touched!

If you serisously want to do a video mosaic, you will waste tons of time without Studio Artist.

I use it to animate real life footage, and I can get effects out of it that can't be gotten anywhere else. The Image Operations are great, Paint Synth presets are fun, PASeq presets are fun, Vecorizer is awesome, it's great! Imagine all your brush strokes (using mouse or Wacom tablet) being recorded in real time out to a QT movie! It does still and QT movies. And it's Mac only. Nothing in the world like it. Any effects artist on a Mac who doesn't have this is missing out!
