The highlight of the day for me was Marc Singer talking to us about his latest project . . .

Chris

I second that Chris. Easy going, articulate, humorous, straight forward, and very much the kind of guy you begin to like immediately. No doubt he will bring back the goods.

A close second (for me) was seeing the HVX reel projected on that big screen . . . answered a lot of questions for me.

Yes, Marc Singer's presentation (well conversation I guess) was definitely tops. The dedication to do both Dark Days and this project is just incredible.

The projected reel answered a lot of my questions too. I kept looking at it and saying they must be using a different lens than the one on my HVX (they didn't). It's just seeing it as it should be shown was the difference.

I would like to know how it was put back on the P2 card and played back. Could someone give us the details? What file format (and how did you get it into that format) how did you put it back on the P2 and the specs on the projection system?

Barry Green's presentation on the menu's alone was worth the cost of entry. Getting the unofficial VFR settings was also a big bonus. Sorry I couldn't stay for the FCP part (bus to catch). But all in all a great session albeit a bit crowded in that venue. :-)

The only bad thing about hearing Marc was, now we have to wait at least 2 and 1/2 years before it's done. I was ready to watch it right then.
Steve
And remember... if you don't have light... you don't have light.

Jarred...could you tell us how the reel was presented on the P2 card? How was it formatted and run on P2? Also if you have the specs for that projector, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

The pesentation was recorded out using FCP 5.0.4s "Print to video" option over firewire.
This only works in the 100Mb over60 DVCpro mode. It was played justlike any other clip on a P2. The Projector is a Sim2 HT300 Plus, native 720x1280 DLP cinema projector with 1300:1 contrast ratio and Carl Zeiss projection optics. It throws 800 lumens but the bulb is getting old and I need to get it replaced as well as have the color wheels cleaned.
The screen is a Da-lite fast fold 10' diagonal 16x9 Cinema vision screen (1.3x gain)

Chris, I totally forgot to look for you yesterday. I had to leave a little early to pick up my daughter from staten island for todays shoot. We will definitly have to hook up some other time. I was wearing the Redskins football shirt.

Jarred and Barry thanks for putting that together and it was nice meeting you guys in person. My neck still hurts from looking WaaaaaaaaaY up at Jarred. HE BE TALL.
Barry, you talk like an auctioneer up there firing away your knowledge and people all around me frantically trying to write down everything you said.
No wonder your posts are soo long, i cant imagine the stuff you dont get a chance to put in. :) Great Job!

Marc's presentation was KicK A$$. All I kept thinking while listening to him was the movie "The Transporter" and Snatch". Heh.
"Noise? Who gives a fook about noise when your story is good? "
That was the best line ever.

Ha ha, he sure is . . . Jarred I played volleyball all afternoon today at the Jersey Shore today, could have used you as a partner!

Nice going gang (everybody), you made it well worth the price of admission.

Thanks!

Regarding outputting from FCP back to the card -- you have to make sure the camera's REC FORMAT matches the timeline of the footage (so put the cam in 720/60p mode, or 1080/60i mode, whichever matches the footage you're going to be recording). Then start FCP, and use the "easy setup" to set up your project. Then go into MCR mode on the camera and turn the thumbnail screen off. You should then be able to see the FCP timeline playing on the HVX's LCD screen. So you just "print to video", and on the HVX you hit the two VCR REC buttons, and record the stream as it's coming in through the firewire.

Man, Marc was awesome, wasn't he? Dude absolutely is living it -- I was so happy that he said he'd come and speak, real-world experiences like that are always great to hear. Stay tuned to his blog on http://marcsinger.info/ where he'll be updating us all on the progress and goings-on in Iraq and Afghanistan and everywhere else he gets shipped off to.

And thanks to everyone for all the nice things they've been saying about the BootCamp series. It's been fantastic having a chance to meet all of you, and if what we share helps you get more out of your chosen tool, then that makes it all worthwhile! :)

How's everyone doing :)

I just wanted to thank Barry and Jarrod and all the other speakers at the Boot Camp. I learnt so much from all of you, and have changed a few settings on my camera's to reflect what I learnt. You're knowledge is truly valuable to everyone who uses this camera and your enthusiasm for sharing that knowledge is very much appreciated. I thought you guys rocked :)

I had a great time up there talking and appreciate all of your support and kind words. I was really nervous at first, and thought I was rattling on :) I'm glad you enjoyed it. I did.

I'm leaving NYC tomorrow for North Carolina and we ship out in 8 days. I'll be updating the website as often as possible. And I'll post on DVX user to say hi.

Take care, and good luck to all of you.

Marc

Barry, i really think you are a genius! The kind that can actually communicate with others.. so rare! If you are not, well you are for sure brilliant!!!:) You give an amazing presentation. I don't always understand what you are talking about, since i am not a tech person, but you speak with such passion it makes me want to listen! You're great;)

Dude, Good luck to you. You had everyone locked in with everything you said. I cant wait to see the final film and pray that you are the one to finish it.
Good luck again and thanks for the presention and inspiration.

Marc, no one would have ever noticed you were nervous! Good to know you are human. Thank you so much for sharing more than tech stuff, i feel the emotion put into the work is even more important than the tech stuff... it's so great not only for people to hear about that, but that they WANTED to hear about it! Great stuff!... SUPER STAR!!! :) (i was the artist girl helping out, that wants to save the homeless!)

Marc,

Your talk was a great surprise and a definite highlight of the day. Few people have as many hours using the HVX200 as you. Your insight and experience is quite valuable.

I hope you turn the camera on yourself from time to time, because I think the making-of and behind the scenes of your film will be as interesting as the film itself.

Good luck and take care. It you run out of paintbrushes let us know. I'll be happy to send you some!

Thank you.

Daniel Cohen
